Very recently the ignition key gets very hot when the engine runs. What's wrong?

you need to go buy a Chilton. There is a litle more to it than telling you a couple of things on a web page. Also if your car has a 4 cylinder and you are replacing the water pump, something they don't tell you is you have to replace the timming belt also. If you don't you will be replacing them both again in a couple of months.

Take your vin number to your local Olds dealer they can code you a new key. I would however only buy one there, take it to lock smith for extras they will be cheaper for duplicates.

I experienced this just last year and all I did was CAREFULLY push the shifter a bit harder into park and viola key went to off and came out. I later took apart the center console and had found that an electrical wire had gotten between the mechanism that gives permission to the ignition to turn to the off position and let go of the key.

I took it to the GM dealer who said that the after-market keyless entry I had purchased from and had installed by Best Buy, had wired it so my automatic door and trunk opener/closer had constant power from the ignition switch. Over a few years it had ruined several parts in my ignition system, which were replaced yesterday for about $540. GM's solution was to wire keyless entry to the car's cigarette lighter for
its power. If that overloads it when I add my GPS system or cell phone, all I have to do is replace the fuse. Thank you all for your suggestions! I appreciate your making the time to help me! The first response I received I took to the dealer, and it went on from there. Don't think I'll use Best Buy as an "installer" any more.
Sorry, I looked at the wrong estimate. It cost me $685. without taxes to fix it. If I had waited longer, more parts would have been ruined and it would have cost me more.
