Sotta starts ok then starts to run rough after about 1 min., i can smell gas, have to hold to floor to keep running, black smoke, gets worse as it runs more, stalls won`t start, maybe map sensor?
You need to replace the fuel pressure regualtor underneath the plenum , ck fuel pressure if it drops suddenly after you shut the engine down suspect fuel regualtor , use to have to replace the whole spider assembly now i think you can just replace the regulator

Hello. It seems there is an fuel problem with your van. A malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator and/or a cracked vacuum hose connected to that fuel pressure regulator will cause the engine to 'flood' AND run rough. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.
If you hold the pedal to the floor it puts the fuel system into Clear Flood Mode. This prevents the injectors from firing and lets the already present fuel burn out. Now if this has to be done on every short trip you probably have a leaking injector.
Does the vehicle seem to crank slowly or stop and then crank when this happens?
I agree with Peter on this one. Sounds like low fuel pressure. First thing is to be sure that you have around 55-60 psi when you turn the key on and running should be around 55. If the pressure drops much below these no.'s the fuel pump may need to be changed. Don't forget to check and/or change the fuel filter also.
If/when you do get it started, do you have to hold the petal to the floor or give it a lot of gas to 'clear' it up again? Does it smoke when you first start it up? If so, you might have a leaking injector (s), the o-rings allow pressure to push gas into cylinders when you shut down, flooding the cylinder-will cause hard starting. If this is not the case, consider a heat-sink kind of situation with the crank sensor-it gets hot with normal driving, and gets even hotter with heat-soak when shut down and changes electrical properties (specifically resistance) until it cools down again. change the crank sensor.
Have someone turn the key on while you watch the injectors. If any gas leaks out of the injectors, without cranking on it) replace the o'rings around the injectors.
The 93-94-95 all have this problem ..the fuel line that come into the back do split and leak ..other problem is with vaccum lines coming off the back of intake and vacuum lines come apart from a 3 way fitting.located fire wall .when these are off will cause gas smell and bad millage .... hopes this helps...
