The engine will sputter while driving until i back off on acclerator. Sometimes it "dies" momentarily while driving. I have also had it die while at a stop, usually i just restart and it is fine. I have had fo disconnect battery and reconnect several times to clear electrcal problems.

You could start the car, put on the emergency brake, crawl under the car, drop the linkage, then move the gear selecter (3) clicks to "D". WAIT...don't do that cause as soon as you click it into "Drive" the Emergency brake will release...Look for a short between the brakelight switch and the rear tail lights.

Sure, the more the throttle and the longer its open the more gas is being injected so if the spark is not there it will spotter. I think you have nothing to loose with an ignition tune-up. It'll be more economical than taking it to a mechanic and still ending up with the same problem. You should change the fuel filter also it could be clogged and there is'nt enough fuel delivered at these speeds. You can also try a fuel injector cleaning solution the kind you pour in the gas tank. This might work for you.

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Could be cam sensor, crank sensor, PCM going bad. On these newer vehicles with all the electronics it is hard to pinpoint what it is till the check engine light does come on for it. I would suspect one of the 3 going bad though.
