I had the same problem, turned out it was worn ignition switch tumbler pins. Try turning the key while tapping on top of the switch with a rubber mallet or sneaker. If it frees up, you need to remove the keyswitch and take it to a locksmith to have the pins replaced. Much cheaper than a new ignition switch.

My 2003 sunfire wont start. Tried charging the battery, still wont start. (It's really cold outside) It does have command start (could that be the problem?)

If it is turning over but not starting, I would put it in a warm garage and let it thaw out for awhile or out gasline antifreeze in the gas tank and let sit for couple of hours turning the key on periodically to pump gas into libes with the deicer because it sounds like a frozen gas line. Let me know if we need to go further

My ignition switch is either locked or frozen? key won't turn, steer wheel won't move, and gear shift want move

The key/ignition switch needs to be replaced. Very common in newer GM vehicles. The key either wont turn, wont go in, or the key wont release from the tumbler. Check with a local Chevy dealer to see if there has been a recall issued for this. But you will need to have it serviced regardless.

1997 pontiac sunfire wont start

there should be a fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail. you can push the valve with a small pin while some one turn the key on.
if you don't have fuel come out then the pump may be bad

Put in key it wont turn.

sounds like you have a frozen lock cylinder. you can try spraying some wd-40 or lube into the key slot and tapping on the ignition and it might free up temporarily but you will most likely have to replace the lock cylinder

Steering column frozen

You may have bound the steering wheel up against the locking mechanism.

Put the key in the ignition, and try to turn, while attempting to rotate the steering wheel to the left or right. When you rotate it the right direction, the key will turn fully and you can start the car.
