I would like to increase my Idle as well.. 06 Forenza Idles where it's supposed to. Everything works correctly. A guy worked on the car, rebuilt the head, ever since then after the car warms up, at Idle, (800 RPM) I get a low oil pressure light. I changed the oil pressure sending switch. That's not the problem. I'm actually getting low oil pressure at Idle; so I would like to increase the Idle to a thousand RPM to keep from getting low oil pressure at Idle speed. How can I cheat the Idle up?

    pigggy backkers,
are no good, never hyjakk posts.
I don't care really, but why cheat yourself? with everyone ignoring bad 2012 posts.
start your own post. and its a win-win...
    i promise.
is car usa car, say country?
then say engine size (2.0L gm) then say, if trans is stick or auto.?
and win. (pretend we can see your car,????)

the FSM is only $4 to read at suzuki
    and it tells you the
RPM is FIXED by the PCM brain, its also a law here, in the USA, that means you cant change it, or fails smog tests.
the PCM will get very upset if you try.
Dont try ! dont tell me i didnt warn you !
800 is the normal rpm hot, on must suzuki,
the oil pressure, is not related at all to 800 rpm, a fact, if. and only if....

how many miles on your engine??????
    50k, 500k what?
1: we never trust the silly $3 , 3psi sensor ever. we use a tool called a pressure guage.
all mech., have one, for 100years now.
all do. and guess what we check the pressure
to be at spec, hot /cold , idle and at 2000 rpm
2: we also check that the oil is not 0w, oil.
3: we check that her is no antifreeze in the oil. or gas.
4: depending on the results of the 4 gauge test. we take more actions.
if the oil is good and pressure below 3psi
hot idle that is a top sign of bad crank bearings. and doom soon.
you can fool those bearings, sorry,
    no you cant.
if they are wrecked, they will get worse fast. I promise, you cant hide catastrophic damage with turning and idle screw. sorry.

if lazy or lacking tools or cant afford a real mech,
buy a new sender pop it in.
but Id not ever do that.
    why?
because if its real, then the damage will cascade, and cost 10x more to fix.
    see?
NEVER IGNORE EVIDENCE, check it out and win.

You cant its hard coded in the PCM brain,
and is Federal law to prevent you from doing this.
all cars 1988 to now. and beyond.
OK i see peter digging up 6 year old posts. and hyyjakking it.
why?
why not man up and ask how to diagnose oil light on.
yah think?

TIMING SETTING ON ALFA ROMEO 156 V6

Not certain as you didn't say the year model of the car. Connect a vacuum gauge to a good source of engine vacuum. Turn the distributor with it running till you get the highest vacuum reading adjust idle and mixture also till you get to the correct idle speed, with the highest vacuum reading you can get with the idle set at the correct RPM. Also adjust the mixture screw to make the highest vacuum reading and correct the idle again and then try moving the timing still more till you find the highest vacuum and smoothest idle, at the correct RPM. Then turn the mixture screw in slightly till the engine sounds just a little rough then watching the vacuum gauge turn the timing again adjusting the idle screw as need to keep it right. Very important to start out with a good and fully charged battery. Any extra loads turned off. If the car is automatic. the do it again with a helper holding the brakes as you adjust just the timing with it idling in drive, again get the best vacuum but don't change the mixture unless it seems all wrong.

How to adjust a Quadra jet carberator on a small block Chevy.

Hello, It's been a long time since I have adjusted a Quadra Jet. Start the engine and bring it up to running temperature. Make sure the choke is fully off. At idle , turn the right hand idle mixture screw in until you hear or feel the engine start to miss. Back out the idle mixture screw 1/4 turn. Repeat procedure for the left hand idle mixture screw. Adjust idle speed screw to 800 RPM for auto trans in gear or 700 rpm manual trans in neutral.

86 gmc k1500 5.7L just replaced carb and now cant get engine to idle

Check that you have replaced the vacuum line for the distributor to the base of the carby block. Turn the 2 idle mixture screws all the way in till they touck the bottom. Then turn both out about 2 full turns . Get the engine running and hold at fast idle and adjust screws until a steady idle is achieved . Allow to idle and screw each screw in or out slightly until even idle is achieved. You will hear the engine revs increase or decrease when you have gone too far so adjust to about the middle of turns

I HAVE A 1989 TOYOTA CORROLLA. iCAN START BUT IT DOES NOT IDLE. I HAVE TO KEEP FOOT ON ACCELERATOR PAD TO KEEP THE MOTOR RUNNING AND IT STOLLS WNEN APPROACING TO STOP. FROM FRANKLIN SOUTH AFRICA.

If your carb has one, check the idle cut-off solenoid wiring and operation first. If that checks out your idle jet is either blocked or the volume adjustment screw is out of adjustment. Start with the volume adjustment screw by turning it all the way in (counting the number of turns it took) and then turning it out about three turns. See if you can get the engine to idle at that setting or somewhere near that. If that does not work, replace the screw to the original position and remove the idle jet and ensure that it is not clogged.

Hello I have a 1980 Ford Bronco 351 2bbl. Wondering if anyone knows which screws adjust what? Please if anyone has any ideas please respond. Thank you.

Here are some images that might help to assist you, and let me know if you require any further assistance.

Adjust the curb idle with the engine warmed up and the choke off.

The air/fuel mixture screws should be adjusted with the engine warmed up and at normal idle speed, then turn each air/fuel mixture screw in one at a time until the engine just begins to mis-fire, then back the air/fuel mixture screw out 1-1/2 to 2 turns out a half a turn at a time until the engine idle is the smoothest. (your vehicle might have restrictor caps over the air/fuel mixture screws to limit the amount of adjustment)

Car wants to turn off

Hi,

Thanks for writing to Fixya.com.

I would check idle adjustment first. There are two idle controls on our cars, so it's not as straight forward as you'd think. There is the base idle (controlled by the screw) and the idle air control valve, controlled by the computer. This computer controlled value is used sparingly when needed. Mostly the car relies on the idle screw control. If this is set too low however, the computer will take over, and you'll think you have idle set correctly, until you let rpms drop from 2,000+ to idle, it will stall, or almost stall.

Adjust the idle screw up until idle raises to 1,000 rpms, then adjust it back down until you get to 850, but no more. If you adjust it more, the idle will stay at 850 because the computer controlled idle takes over. A lot of people (me included) will keep turning the screw all the way down, thinking everything is fine. Don't do it. Stop adjusting once you hit 850 rpms with a warm motor.

This is the easiest, quickest thing to check, so do it first before trying anything else.

Thanks for contacting Fixya and please accept the solution if it has helped you.

1981 corvette carb adjustments 4 bblr feadback q-jet need idle adjust proceedure

the idle adjustment needs to be performed warm but the mixture screws at or near the base have springs on then they need turned in all the way and backed out 2 turns then when the vehicle is warm the idle screw is near the linkage also with a spring on it if you have a tach in the car it should its a corvette lol turn the screw in or out until the car idles around 750 to 850 rpm it idles up automatically when cold if your choke is set properlythis should get you where you need to be you may need to adjust mixture screws a little the only proper way to do this is with a vacuum box but you will be in the ballpark anyway with the method i gave you

Need to adjust the fan belts

Which one? The A/C belt is adjusted from the top. Loosen the bolt that goes through the Idle pulley then turn the adjusting bolt next to the pulley to tighten or loosen. Retighten the Idle pulley bolt once adjusted. The Power Steering belt procedure is pretty much the same but has to be done from under the car. The alternator belt is similar but there is no Idle pulley. You loosen the alternator bolts and turn the adjusting bolt. Then retighten the alternator when done.

Carburator tune up of charadade 1992 sedan. The engine is running too fast while idle at 1200 r.p.m.

Before you start check the status of your choke. One that is stuck on will cause a high idle. If the choke checks out, proceed to the following:

You should have what's called a 2 needle carburetor. A larger screw adjustment for idle, and a smaller for high speed.

Start by adjusting your low speed (idle) needle until you reach the desired idle. I prefer about 850rpms. Do this with the engine running and adequately warmed so that your adjustments are not thrown off by the automatic choke.

Next slowly open up the high speed needle. As you open it your idle speed will gradually increase. Adust it in 1/8 turn increments, pausing after each adjustment to allow the changes to take affect. Keep opening it until you stop increasing your rpms, then take it back 1/8 of a turn.

Next readjust your idle mixture screw so that your idle is back down to 850rpms.
