I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota, V6, 3.7L, with the 42RLE transmission. The tranny died last week, and I have replaced it with a used 42RLE from an '05 Dakota. Shift lever on steering column in park. Shift...

I recently had my engine replaced in my 2002 grand marquis 4.6 with a 2009 crown Vic 5.4 engine and was running fine until I broke my ignition and tried to replace it myself I bought a new ignition switch didn't work so I bought a steering column and still won't start what do I d?
I landed on this website reliable-store.com and they got me free manuals so I used it to repair and it works fine

1992 dodge dakota with automatic transmission won't shift by itself. I have to start it in second and shift up and shift down when I slow and RPMs drop. Even with manually shifting it doesn't seem...

Can you disconnect the linkage at the transmission and manually shift the trans into park ?

Testimonial: "the plastic pins were shaved off after 15 years of use and the cable slipped off after breaking into. actually a mechanic took a file and put a notch on the shifter and added a "D"ring around the notch so it would catch the gears. It works great now. Saved me from having to wait for him to order the part which would take 3-5 business days, $100.00 for the part then add labor. I had my truck back in working condition after 2 hrs. Great Job everyone! Charlie in Arkansas.. WPS!!!"

I had the same problem. The interlock was not the problem. I had the shifter replaced (at my own expense because drive train warranty would not cover). After examining the old shifter discovered source of problem is a plastic cam on the front of ths shifter. A tiny PLASTIC ear which connects to a small spring had broken off. I repaired this by putting in a small screw where the ear had been. Incidentally, my tow truck driver had also seen the same problem on several Chrysler 300s. In my estimation this is a poor design on Chrysler's part.

it doesent have to be slipping to go bad.youve lost reverse and it could be the solenoid on the side of the trasnmission but i dont think so since it would affect all the gears
