I have a Scion xA 2005 with 35K miles and a rattle/squeaky spinning-type sound in the driver side of the front of the car (where the engine is). Also, the car vibrates heavily when it's stopped but still in drive (idling). I maintain the regular maintenence schedule and change oil every 3,000 miles. Any thoughts?
I have the same prob;em as timothy_conn. It sounds like there is something (like a bottle cap or something) stuck in my tire, but I've checked several times and there's nothing there.I have the same prob;em as timothy_conn. I too have experienced the "clicking" noise from the right-front side of the car. It varies with speed, leading me to believe there was something stuck in the tire tread. Nothing there. Perhaps there's an internal part that's loose?I too have experienced the "clicking" noise from the right-front side of the car. First you need to figure out WHY it stopped running. Was it no fuel? no ignition spark? A tune will not make a engine quit. Have the comp codes read at an auto store, its free.
2005 Scion XA Alternator Removal. Left front side of Engine, 2 12MM blots on the bracket, remove, one 14MM bolt below above the pulley. Get this loose and remove. It is a pain. Then pivot the alternator all the way forward. Screw the bolt in the RIGHT side so we can pull in the sleeve that is holding the BEAST. Using a Small Pry Bar, slowly and carefully put on Pressure forcing the Bolt to the RIGHT to pull in the Sleeve so the alternator will release. It took a few tries but I got it out. Getting the Bolt back in the slot seems to be the next challenge!!. Good Luck.
This problem in a car this new is likely to be caused by low octane gas. if it doesnt go away after the old gas has been removed and higher octane gas put in then there could be another problem. when does it make the knocking sound? is it only while under heavy load? ie going uphill in higher gears? is it manual or auto?
It almost sounds like you have a heat shield that is loose on your exhaust system. Let it cool, and try to reach under, lightly bumping the exhaust pipes with your hand. If you hear any rattle noises, or squeeks then you have a loose shield. you can ither remove the shield, or try to use a large clamp to go around it and tighten it up.
