I was having the same issue on my 2000 Cherokee. I took the two screws off that hold the plastic seat panel in place to get to the wires on the back of the switch. When looking for a cut wire, the seat suddenly started to work (I could get it to move all the way back and all the way forward) There is clearly a loose connection on the seat wiring but in my situation all I wanted to do is return the seat to it's full BACK position. (Which I did). I'll chase the loose connection another day. Hope this helps someone else out in the future. Good luck.

I'm having this same issue, I"m the only one who drives the jeep and its just an extra vehicle, really don't want to put that much money into it if I can just manually move the seat to the furthest back setting.

SOURCE: power seat issue

Get out your voltmeter, unplug the connection to the seat's motor, underneath the seat, and hit the switch. if youve got power going to the motor then youll need to replace the motor. If not, it's probably the switch. Also make sure the wires are not cut or damaged somewhere between the switch and the seat.

SOURCE: Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Power Seat Problem

Replacement parts and labor could run $200 + from the dealer.. Yes, a replacement switch can be obtained from a salvage yard, BUT NOT from an auto parts store. It is not difficult to remove old switch and replace

Drivers power seat wont move forward. Can't push clutch if I can't move the seat forward

Check the two fuse boxes (use your smartphone camera and flash) for anything burned out . Note: There are two fuse boxes, one inside, under the dash and another by the engine.

Owners manual will help you locate the seat power fuse.

How do you manually adjust a Chevy Impala power seat

To manually maneuver a power seat because the automatic feature malfunctions, carry out the following steps:
1. Turn of the engine, remove the batteries for safety reasons
2. Ensure that you have the following tools at hand-winder, screwdriver, pliers, knife, gloves, bolt cutters, and safety glasses.
3. Remove the entire rear seat
4. Cut the spring mesh below the seat with the bolt cutters-this will expose the shafts
5. Turn the shaft left to move the seat forward, and turn it right if you want to move it backward - keep turning until you get the desired position
6. Now test if the seat is in the correct position and put everything back in place
One of the many motors in your seat is not working properly, so it may need to be replaced. The problem may also be caused by faulty wiring or a blown-up fuse.

Hi,
Does the seat move while driving when you hit a bump?
When you make it move by pushing it, are you moving the WHOLE seat or just the SEAT BACK? Could it be the forward/back lean that's 'loose'?

Also, I'd try moving the seat ALL the way FORWARD and then ALL the way BACK to ensure it's on its rails. When it's @ each extreme, see if one position has more 'play'/movment than another.

Do you share the RAV w/another driver that changes the seat too? It could be gettting worn from constant adjustment (I doubt it, but a thought).

You can move the drivers seat back by turning on the power, getting in the seat and position your feet firmly on the fron flor with your back firmly against he seatback, and then engage the switch pushing back - while pushing like hell with your feet. You can actually hear the seat drive shaft turning while the seat moves back. The principle should be the same for moving forward, but pressure would have to be aplide to the back of the seat.
