Where is the coolant sensor on a 2.4l engine coolant fan doesn't work
On the 98 2.4 the coolant level switch is located on the bottom side of the coolant recovery tank. The switch contains a reed switch and a magnetic float. When the coolant level is normal, the float rests away from the reed switch, causing the switch to be open. When the coolant level decreases in the coolant recovery tank below a specified level, the float rests on the reed switch and the switch closes, illuminating the LOW COOLANT light.
It should be located on the bottom of the rad

the coolant temp sensor is at the rear of the engine and is a "bad word" to get to. the 3 relays are at the bottom, under the fans. if you remove the driver side fan out of the way( 2 10mm bolts holding the fan) you should have good access to them. they do have locks on them and may be tricky to unplug. there is a 7/16 nut holding the relay plate down. remove and it should be easy to remove them.

looking at the front of the engine, just to the right and behind the distributor cap. You will see a wire attached (push on).
SOURCE: need to locate and replace coolant sensor
If you are refering to the coolant level sensor (causes low coolant light to turn on), it is located on the radiator near the battery on the passnger side. It is on the radiator tank, just below the radiator cap and the upper connection for the transmission line. Heres a picture of the sensor on my 2002 Impala when I removed the radiator (it's the square thing in the center of the picture):

It is on the Driver side of engine in between the COP's (Coil on plugs) simply unplug the wire use a 19 or 3/4 deep well socket and unscrew it and put it new one... The whole process should only take 10-15 minutes.
