I have a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan SE that I purchased in July of 2008. Today on December 08, 2008 while driving the van the radio stopped working but the time still displayed and the lights that come on when you turn on the headlights. Also there is this loud noise coming from under the hood, but it is especially loud when I am turning the wheel.

if you have good battery voltage at this time, and when you banged on the starter and then the car cranked over, it would appear you have a defective starter. i would imagine if you replaced it in july of last year that it could still be under some sort of warranty, so i would look into that. either way, it sounds as if you need a new starter.

I've had several of these vans with this problem, check the transaxle for low fluid. Each of mine would start shaking when the fluid was low.

Quite possibly the switch, Dodge minivans also have a front control module located under the hood, it attaches directly to the underhood fusebox, if a switch doesn't fix it I would look there.

Even though I can't hear the noise, I'll try to point you in right direction. Sounds like just maybe a fuse for radio has blown. As far as the noise goes, maybe a loose or worn belt on power steering pump, or alternator may be acting up which could possibly cause fuse to blow in radio. have it checked out to determine for sure where/what that noise is from, then we can better help you out.
