Repair shop worked on my friend's '98 Mustang, replacing the alternator drive belt + idler pulley + drive belt idler pulley. car was driven, then sat for a few hours and did not want to start. it did turn over, but was losing power quickly and did not start. seems like the shop may not have done everything correctly....or is this a totally new problem?

check the fuses in the POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX under the hood, There is a 75A in-line fuse and #11 - 15A fuse see if they are good.... test your alt. loom for opens, and cables .....hope this helps...GL

If you have a book picture your are screwed. You do have a tensioner but it is between air con and powersteering pullys. In front from under you can put 15mm wrenchopend with a nother for leverage pull center bolt down to release tension. simple.

somewhere you have a intermittent open, wish i had wiring diagrams in front of me, this alternator will tell you if it is not working right through the instrument cluster. need to find the wiring diagram and do an ohm test of the wire, if it is broken you will need to splice in a new piece.

Try using a very small spray of silicone spray on the belt next time you're hearing the squeal. If it temporarily stops, replace the belt. Check the p/s fluid level, if it's low it could cause the pump to make noise. Also if it's low, you have a leak, check all lines, connections and pull back the bellows boots on the p/s rack (if rack and pinion). Finally, pick yourself up a mechanic's stethescope, good tool for diagnosing accesory noises. Listen to all components while duplicating the noise.
