Idle bypass screw adjustment or idle steper motor.

Check Idle steper motor located on throttle body, remove the idle motor & clean with throttle body cleaner & put back in.

SOURCE: 97 Jeep grand cherokee 6 cyl. idles down to 0 and dies.

any leaks in intake or exhaust upstream of the sensors, sparkplug condition and engine controls/sensors for out of range operation (including fuel pressure and condition of regulator)
IAC should be cleaned and checked as this can cause poor idle and shut down. I'm not saying not to change O2 sensors, but unless everything else if OK, it probably won't help.

SOURCE: 2004 jeep grand cherokee idling problem. Revs motor 200 to 500 rpms higher while driving.

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.

Engine idles at 1000 RPMs.At 60 MPH 2000 RPM's.Is this normal?

the 4.0L engine?
is this engine cold or hot.
why is 2000 rpm wrong for 60mph., (depends on engine and axle size and what gear you were in , then)

the idle speed for hot is too high
did you scan the PCM yet?
if hot , idle is high, is the thermostat holding water temp 180f or above. ? if not that is the problem.

Misfire, idles high

I would start with ect. That is the engine coolant temperature (sensor). That sensor monitors the coolant temp and tells the computer to increase engine RPM so the engine warms up faster. In the mornings when you first start your car and it idols high, that sensor is sending that information. If you have a code for this sensor start there.

What should the idle speed be set at on a 1989 jeep wrangler 4.2 liter straight 6 cyl. It has a 2bbl carb. It idles at 1000 rpm right now but seems fast or is that about right?

Most carb. engines should idle between 725 and 750 R.P.M., lower the idle and be sure to check the timing. You should have an emissions label under the hood to explain the idle and timing.

04 jeep cherokee larado idles too slow or fast then engine light comes on

Ask for a free scan of your computer at any chain auto parts store; there is probably an error code stored that may tell you the source of the problem. It takes only a few minutes and will yield a 4-digit code pointing toward the problem.
I suspect the idle air control is faulty or you have a broken vacuum line or leak.
