Kia Optima I just replaved my timing belt, oil pump belt, crank senser, map senser, R & R senser. The timing belt was not broke but did have a few missing teeth. It will start and run just fine on a cold motor. After the motor warms up it has a rough idle, low idle, and will eventually die without keeping the idle up with my foot on the gas pedal. It will surge on highway speeds, most climbing hills. It also has developed a vibration while accelerating. Jump before it shifts into a higher gear. This happens regardless of take off speed.

The car is not flashing any codes. After hearing the power steering whine when I turned the wheel too far or the a/c belt whine when I use the defrost; i adjusted the belts. The car stays running but still has a low idle. The fuel filter just got replaced. The fuel injectors I haven't a clue on where to begin.

Is the car flashing any codes. I would look for fuel issues possibly fuel filter, injectors etc. Because these items are easier to check. Otherwise it sounds as if the timing is off on the car. If the Hydraulic tensioner is not replaced this could cause the belt to jump teeth as well. PRETTY SURE YOUR TIMING IS STILL OFF

Make sure you check the timing marks on the pulleys etc. to make sure they are lined up. If the car is 2.4 litre 4 cyl optima it will be DOHC (dual over head cams which means you will have 2 pullys on the top to allign as one on the bottom. There are marks or notches on all of them. Kia does make an alignment tool but if you have an extra set of hands you should be ok.

Need how to set timing belt on kia optima

I had 2006 kia optima 2.4 liter LX, I drove 150000 miles plus, it was over 100,000 miles I changed timing belt, and AC belt, alternator belt is still ok, but it was my fault, I did not change crank shaft balance belt, it next to timing belt, this very important, timing belt and crank shaft balance belt must change same time, you set all mark the same positions, you can see all clear marked
if you had OBD2 scanner is helpful to read all faulty codes if you do it your self repair
if you have any problems about KIA optima, please post on any websites, to share some ideas to other KIA optima owners, like me, I change oil every 2500 miles to make my optima runs smoother
automatic transmission fluid change every year if you put high mileage on your car, optima had hard time to find it own part some time, radiator hoses are still good condition and had hard time to find in any auto part stores in my home town, good luck and thanks for sharing.

My car stopped a dead stop

If you were driving and your Kia Optima just turned off. Your timimg belt broke and you will also need a crank shaft sensor too. There is a total of two belts inside the motor area (timing belt and balance belt) I would change out the ac and power steering belt as well so their is a total of four belts on the KIA 2004 OPTIMA.

6cyl LX location of the crankshaft sensor

The crankshaft position sensor is bolted to the block about a quarter inch away from your crank. Not the crank pulley but the actual crank. This means removing the cover for the timing belt and the timing belt itself along with many other parts. I have a 06 kia optima and I had to replace my crankshaft sensor, believe me you do not want to try unless you are mechanically inclined. If you remove the timing belt cover and look right next to the crank there is a little plastic piece bolted on with 2 bolts. That would be your crank sensor. Don't take timing belt off until you have all components lined up oil pump, crank, cams, etc. Also mark your belt at the marks when they are lined up so when you put it back on you know its right. If you do decide to replace it and you need some advice let me know and I would be glad to help. Hope that info helps you out.

2004 KIA Optima LX timing belt/water pump

The thing is your doing the timing belt the water pump is right their with it . it should cost you much more at all besides the cost of the water pump. When doing a timing belt I have a rule that I go by The timing belt/seals =cam , crank , any pulley & tensioner & water pump all get replaced at the same time. I did a t-belt on a Audi A-8 very complex whole front of car has to come off as well, he didnt want to do w-pump & thermostat his thermostat was their as well not even a month later the water pump gave out he had to pay double the price because he didnt want to do it when I had it apart the first time. And make sure mechanic is ase certified . good luck
