I have a 2003 Toyota Highlander. Recently it started stalling when the A/T oil temp light came on. I took it to a local trans shop. They drove the car and tested it,with No result

The light has come on about 4-5 times.A couple of times right in the driveway even before the transmission has gotten warm. If I unplug a wiring harness that comes up from the transmission to the top of the air filter the light will go out and the car will run at an idle. I can put the car in drive and it will move, but it will not accelerate.

Id guess the oil temp sensor is faulty
or the wire leading to it is corroded
start there

SOURCE: When do I change the transmission fluid in my 2003 Highlander?

If the fluid smells burnt or is black, replace fluid. Manufacturer suggests that you inspect it at every 30,000 mile interval. I would suggest having it flushed every 75,000 miles as a normal maintenence.

Check the timing and compression of the engine. It sounds like you either have a blown head gasket or a the timing jumped.

SOURCE: 2003 toyota highlander. when starting it wont maintain idle.

Try to adjust the idle of the truck because there is a possibility the idle is low and if still not work put the gear in neutral and then start it and step on the gas pedals for 20 sec.

SOURCE: vsc light comes on when I put in drive or reverse

Have patience and light will go off. Or you can go to advance auto to clear it for you. Or you can disconnect the battery for 10 seconds. Your choice.

Why is the engine light and VSC light on in my 2003 Highlander with 136,000 miles.

There is some of a sensor attached to the oil filter assembly, sometimes after regular oil change mechanic forgets to check this connection. So no harm to the engine, but the light stays on. Just ask them to re-connect.
Happened to my Highlander like 5 times :)

Im not to sure but maybe i can get you started, what kind of work got done on trans? Did work get done at a shop and you drove home, Has car ran and drove after repairs or has it never ran since? For starters i would check for fuel and spark to engine, second i would check all connections for a possible bad connection for the electronics to work properly. not knowing what took place maybe you could be more specific on the procedure that led up to this problem.

Oil pressure switch

There are no recalls that pertain to oil pressure switches on any Toyota vehicle. I would like to know exactly what part of the switch popped out, the entire switch, or just a part of it. What probably happened is somebody banged into the switch when changing the oil, and compromised the integrity of the switch. The oil pumping out issue: The Oil Pressure Switch is on the first oil galley out of the oil pump. This means that the switch port gets full oil pressure while the engine is running. This is around 30 PSI. With the switch, or any part of it missing, it would not take too long to pump out the 3.9 quarts of oil in the pan.

Toyota Highlander Catalytic Converter

You should have the Catalytic Converter replaced at a muffler shop, not a dealer.
Then if you still have a problem have the dealer replace the computer(if it was a recall, it will be free)
