If it cranks but won't start, you'll have to figureout if it is a fuel or ignition problem.Have you checked the computer for trouble codes ?

SOURCE: 1994 Toyota Tercel Starter Problems

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

SOURCE: How do you replace a starter in a 1991 Toyota Camry

Make sure battery connectios are clean and tight. Positive battery wire goes to starter and negative battery wire goes to engine/body. Connections must be clean and tight. Car must be cold; have someone cranks while you listen where the clicking sound is coming from. You can put your hand on the stater solenoid(smaller part on top of starter) and feel the click. If it's there, the starter is acting up. Remove battery ground, put aside and start removing starter. Mark wires if you need to. Use proper jackstands if you must go underneath. I do believe you should be able to get at it from the top. Let me know.

SOURCE: 1997 Toyota Camry won't start

The starter has two L-shape copper plates. These copper plates get used every time you start the car. After certain period of time the plates are so thin that no contact is made. So the car doesn't start. So your copper plates could be worn out. I had my replaced. And the problem is gone. If you know a good mechanic, you'll probably get fix for less than $100.

It's a common problem on Camry. They wear out prematurely.

Had same problem. Get manual diagram for starter assembly from manualspace.com. Tap starter assembly sticking out driver side of engine block with ballpeen hammer, or similar small hammer. Try a few times. Probably will restart, but need to replace starter assembly. Aloha!

Won't start

so stop guessing, buy an $10 voltmeter (walfart has one)
and do simple tests. all very easy, ask.
the first step is jumper cable starts, ! cranks/ pass/fail??????
my guess, this fails.
if my car dont jump start, (i can coast start my car)
i check battery voltgage, alhhhhhh 12.6vdc, good. 10v bad.
i then hot wire the starter solenoid.
dead, (or clicks) , starter bad, big cables to it bad,(x2) or engine seized. (or battery bad, blow 10v cranking is bad battery 99%
i hand turn engine by hand, it dont turn, it's seized.
it turns by hand; good.!
so lets say the hot wire test works (keys in pocket cranks but dont start now , because my keys are in my pockets for safety)

that means the KEY LINE Is dead (small wire to starter solenoid)
see here. works for all cars. (not hacked key lines, etc.)

Wont start battery is good

If the engine will not crank, a mechanic would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch.
Is the security light on, or the anti-theft engaged ?

Dads 93 camry doesnt start. checked all fuses in dash and engine compartment and nothing. attempted to jump start it, and nothing. before he goes waste 200 dollars on a new starter, is there anything else...

Does the car make any noises when you try and start it..?
Try tapping the starter at the same time that someone is turning the key into the start position.
If this causes the car to crank or start, replace the starter motor.

If not, check for power at the small wire on the starter when the key is being turned.
If power is present, replace the starter.
If not, you have another issue, take the vehicle to a qualified person.

91 camry wont start fuse problem?..the car is great running cond.

Probably the battery. The battery may have enough voltage for the lights to work; however, this may not be enough voltage to start the car.

Find someone with cables to give you a jump start. Then take the car by an auto parts place and have them load test your battery. Most stores do this at no charge.
