I have the glass window and new top I have instructions for the top but not the window

  • Anonymous Jun 28, 2012

I have an air hose stapler I believe this is the only special tool I need....are there other tools? I am not sure if I should have the top lifted midway when putting the glass on the rear bow.

Installation of th e window takes special skills and tools. Please leave this to an automotive trim repair shop.

The rear window for that top is a seperate curtain.
Replacement is best left to a professional.
You should cantact an automotive trim shop (upholstery) for them to quote it.

The way it is replaced, you have to take the top loose, roll it forward, replace the window curtain, reinstall the top. Depending on the condition if the top, it may need replacement also. That is best determined by the shop that does the work.
This is not recommend as a DIY project. I worked in a trim shop for years, and they are not easy.

this is going to be pretty tough, this depends on if the mechanical bits are working. if they are it should be maybe 2 hours of labor as to where to find one cheap.... you may have to have one made or you might luck out and find salvage bit somewhere, if it was mine i would just redo what i already have.

Convertible top coming away from glass window

This is a common problem. At the factory, the top material is bonded to the glass. That bond is breaking down. You can use Gorilla taps or urethane adhesive, but you will eventually need a new window unit.
The window unit is separate from the actual top. The top must be partially removed to replace the window unit.

My back window is pooping out of my convertible top. How do I fix without replacing the whole top?

Good Evening, there are several ways to go about it. First off your local upholstery shops can assist you in some way with that without changing the whole top with their assistance. Some glass places can prime the glass and you can get some fuzor to glue it back down. You have a couple options to explore now, hope this helps.
Thanks,
Joey

2000 corvette convertible top rear window came

This is a common problem with many cars. It is delamination. If the window is loose in spots, it can often be repaired with urethane adhesive like glass shops use for windshields. If the glass is more than 30% delaminated, chances of fixing it are slim. With the glass all the way out, you need a new top. Karl at topgunwon.com

My brother-in-law sold me a Saab 900 convertible, the window rear window was broken out (glass) He said it broke when he put the top down... So just wondering if the window should be removed before putting...

Plexi works fine, but it doesn't have the embedded heating wires. To replace the glass normally requires that the hood section below it be replaced with it. This usually means removal of the hood material from the back of the car, and reattachment by staples to the mounting strip. Most suppliers have instructions on how to do this.

If you get a good used rear window, you might be able to simply 'unglue' the feature strip (that's the hood material below the glass) and reattach it to the 'new' window with 3M's special adhesive for this.

Good luck!

My driver side window does not auto roll up anymore. How do I fix it?

Window may not be initialized. Follow this proceedure

Window Motor Initialization adobe.gif Printable View (96 KB) NOTICE: Make sure no obstructions are present in the window system when carrying out this procedure.
NOTE: A battery disconnect does not require this procedure to be carried out unless the battery was disconnected while the window was operating.
NOTE: Excessive bounce-back (bounce-back that occurs with no obstructions present) may indicate a non-initialized window motor.
NOTE: Carry-out the de-initialization of the motor before initializing the motor.
NOTE: The motor will only operate in the 9-16 volt range. If the voltage drops below 9 volts, the window will not function correctly or may stop moving. If the voltage drops below 9 volts while the motor is operating, the motor will become de-initialized and will need to be initialized.
NOTE: The front window motors must be initialized whenever: a new window regulator and motor is installed, a new window glass is installed, a glass top run removal and installation or when carrying out any operation in which grease or lubricants are applied to the window system. A new front window motor is in a proportional up/down mode until initialized.
NOTE: The convertible rear window motors do NOT need to be initialized as they do not have one-touch up or one-touch down functions.
NOTE: All front window components (window glass, window regulator, window motor and glass top run) must be installed/tightened and adjusted to specification before carrying out this procedure.
NOTE: If this procedure is only partially completed, the front window motor remains non-initialized and only the proportional up/down functions operate. A non-initialized window motor may allow one-touch down operation, but does NOT allow one-touch up operation.
De-initialization
  1. The motor can be de-initialized in 2 ways:
    • Disconnect the battery cable from the battery while the window is operating.
    • Remove the window motor fuse while the window is operating.
  1. After the motor has been de-initialized, the initialization procedure must be carried out.
Initialization
NOTICE: Make sure there are no obstructions present in the window system when carrying out this procedure.
NOTE: The door MUST be closed during this procedure (for convertibles, the top and quarter glass must be in the closed and up position), in order for the door window motor to initialize.
NOTE: The windows must be in the full open position for this procedure to operate correctly.
  1. Press and hold the window control switch in the UP position at the second detent until the window glass stalls into the glass top run for at least 2 seconds.
  1. Once the top run is reached, hold the window control switch in the DOWN position at the second detent until the window glass stalls at the bottom of its travel for at least 2 seconds.
  1. Cycle the window glass an additional 5 times to set the window soft stop for the down position.
  1. Test for correct window operation by carrying one-touch up feature.

Vent window repair.

To replace the window seal, you first have to remove the vent window assembly from the door. After it is removed, the nut and spring on the bottom of the window has to be removed. Then remove the glass and frame from the vent assembly frame. Then gently remove the rubber off of the frame and install the new one after you replace the top vent bar seals. Reverse the window removal procedures to reinstall the glass and frame. The top vent bar seals requires a special tool to remove and replace the rivets you get with the replacement seal. You need to replace the top vent bar seal before reinstalling the new vent window rubber. When I replaced my top vent seals, it was fairly easy with my removal/installation tool.
