This problemis always caused by a defective fuel level sensor. The level sensor islocated of course in the gas tank. To change the level sensor you must remove the gas tank from the truck.

Have a problem with gas gauge on a 2004 Chevy SSR

fuel gage sender unit-undefined-undefined-0.jpg You could use two resistors, Two different ohms specs for full and empty. Place resistor between proper wire colors in diagram. Turn on the key, If gage reacts properly to full and empty resistors, then I think the problem is the sending unit in gas tank. If not, the problem could be almost anywhere, wiring circuit--pcm--instrument cluster. I did see trouble codes relating to fuel gage sending unit. I hesitate to get into that? good luck

I got a 2001 Chevy Venture and fuel gauge always stays on full

The problem is in the fuel sender unit in the tank. It sounds like the float part of the sender unit is binding when it's at the top (when tank is full) and hangs up there till it falls back down when tank is near empty. It will likely have to come out to be checked, fixed, or replaced. Good luck.

I fueled my 2005 chevy uplander and now my check engine light is on, and gas gauge marks empty. I will run it and slowly the gauge will move to half and then back to empty. Check engine remains on.

I had the same problem, a friend said to check gas cap to see if seals properly, bought a new one and the problem went away something to do with the vacuum seal but I do not quite understand that

Fuel sensor gauge

you will need to replace the fuel level sensor.(sending unit) it is in the tank and is hooked to the fuel pump. you can buy seperatly from pump. you may finf it easier to remove the bed if you have some help. it is six or eight bolts and harness unplugs then you can get right to it.
