During hot days, when I turn off the ignition and take the key out and open the door, the alarm that indicates the key is still in the ignition goes off. I have to reinsert the key and restart the car then pull the key out to get it to stop. If I don't, I am unable to lock the car. Is this a battery problem, electrical problem, etc?

Yes the key needs to be reprogramed to the car. Unfortunately that will have to be done by the dealer. Make sure that you have plenty of proof that you are the owner. They will reprogram it but you will not take posession of the car until you prove it is yours.

Hi Jagman
I suspect this could be your battery at fault.
Get it heavy discharge tested first.
Good Luck.
John.

Check if your transmission really is in park. I once had the same problem and it was fixed by moving the stick in and out of the park stand for a couple of times. Then the red light illuminating the "P" came on and i could start again.
Has to do with the transmission cable that tends to get a bit loose.

Try re-programming key fob. It's also on fixya.com. I did it and it just worked

Hi,
I have a similar problem in my x type. Although if I press unlock button on the key first and then use the metalic key to unlock it dissables the alarm.
Also according to the manual if you unlock by the metalic key the car starts a beeping sound its I think 15-20 second timer within which you should put the key and start the ignition (don't need to start the engin) this will dissarm the alarm if not the alarm will go off in 15-20 second.
Hope this information is of any use, am trying to get hold of Jaguar dealers to fix this issue. If you come accross any solution please do let me know too
