vehicle info would of been nice but I have read about rivets holding frames/unibodies together and loosening up causing similar noises mainly with Chrysler products
A whinning noise while turning is an indication of a worn bearing. The extra pressure put against the bearing/race during the turn and the closing of a gap creates this noise.I would chech the axle bearings on the side of the truck on the outside the curve when you hear it. What I'm saying is if you hear it when you turn left....check the right side bearing
That's a bad wheel bearing. If when driving and you swerve side to side and its loud one way and not the other or not as bad the other then its a wheel bearing. As for the metal shavings on the plug don't worry about it unless there are chunks of metal then you should have the rear end inspected.
well if it is your hubs going bad the noise will (#1) speed up and slow down with the speed of the car moving!!( because the hubs only move when the tires move)but if the noise speeds up and slows down with the car in park and only reving the engine than it is not your hubs!!! will end up being a bearing going bad on a pulley that is turned by the main v-belt( BELT TENSIONER PULLEY, power steering,water pump,a/c clutch,ect.)
THIS NOISE IS USUALLY THE HUB. HAVE SOMEONE GO WITH YOU ON A TEST DRIVE. GET THE ROARING TO HAPPEN AT ITS LOUDEST AND GENTLY SWERVE THE CAR LEFT AND RIGHT. DON'T BE SURPRISED IF YOU THINK BOTH HUBS ARE BAD.
LIFT THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND PUT IT ON JACK STANDS. PULL OUTWARD ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TIRE WHILE PUSHING INWARD ON THE TOP OF THE WHEEL. IF THE WHEEL MOVES EXCESSIVELY YOU FOUND THE HUB THAT IS NOISY.
USING A MECHANICS STETHOSCOPE YOU CAN SOMETIMES HEAR A ROARING TYPE NOISE ON THE BACKING PLATE SIDE OF THE HUB WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE TRANS IN GEAR. TRY NOT TO GET THE SPEED UP TOO FAR ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAN HEAR THE NOISE AT LOW SPEED, YOU DON'T WANT TO VIBRATE OFF THE STANDS.
sounds more like the brakes than anything else. it sounds like youre down to metal on metal where you dont have a brake pad left on that side of the car ...have it checked but i dont think it will be the transmission
