1993 Jeep Grand Cheerokee drives fine in all gears then slows down and won't drive in any gear

I used to be able to drive it for 20 minutes before it did this, now only driving for smaller time frames before it won't drive at all, just revs engine up. If I wait a while it will drive 5-50 feet before stalling again. just changed transmission fluid. When it does drive all gears work smoothly, I would like to know if you think it's the transmission, a pump or some kind of a sensor.

SOURCE: 1999 jeep grand cherokee transmission

This is called limp mode chrysler did this to protect the transmission without leaving the owner stranded by the road,a few things will cause this mainly putting the wrong fluid in the transmission, they use only atf+4,or the govenor pressure sensor is acting up which should cause a check engine light to come on,or the transmission just needs a fluid and filter change, should be done every 2yrs or 36k miles, due the fluid and filter change about 40.00 but if you have the wrong fluid then the whole system needs to be flushed and refilled-transmission-torque convertor, radiator and cooler if equipped and all lines.

SOURCE: Tran warms up, then problem getting out of 1st gear

Depending on who serviced it. Was it a reputable place? If the fluid and filter were definately changed, your tranny is going out. Just wear and tear with those kind of miles. Hope it helps

SOURCE: Once in Drive, Jeep does not easily shift back to Park

Try to check the trans mission gears of your 1995 jeep grand cherokee. The shift fork and the clutch sleeve of the trans mission is locking to the other gears .And then also check the starter motor and its solenoid.if the starter motor solenoid is destroyed or worn out replace .

SOURCE: 2004 jeep grand cherokee engine management light

I had a similar issue on a grand cherokee '98 4.0L, and it was because the gearbox was overheating due to old oil and the fact that is was low on oil. Change gearbox oil and the filter inside the gearbox checked the two band tension and adjusted them and all was ok. the oil should be red or a dark pink. It would point more to this being the poblem if when it does change gear, the gear changes seam slow or slugish or change happens at higher engine revs. You may be able to get a fault code from ecu, by turning ign. to acc then on then off then on then off then on then off then off hen on again (code is displayed instead of odomitor reading as PXXXX or POXXXX). This could point you i one or more directions if oil seem to be correct.

Have a '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4WD, 5.2L, 8 cyl, automatic that's not shifting. Transmission fluid looks good, no burnt smell, no metal bits in fluid, no grinding gears. Won't shift til you...

If the transmission will not go into gear or has trouble finding gears and has the proper amount of fluid, the shifting linkage could be bent or misaligned, especially on automatic models. The linkage can be found on the driver side of the transmission, toward the top of the unit. Inspect it to make sure the components aren't bent or broken and have someone shift the Grand Cherokee while you watch from underneath. Most times, only minor adjustments are necessary.
Also, check Torque Converter and scanned the TCM (Trans Control Module) to know if some fault code is stored there.

Loud noise comming from the transfer case when I put the jeep in gear, and it won't go into all wheel drive

Sounds like you broke a gear in the transfer case you will need a tranny shop to check it.

I have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee limited. when you first get in the car and drive it drives fine then all the sudden it will act like it is not in gear. no lights will come up. when i slowed down it...

Check the oil levels in the transmission, if it is low, this will stop the gears engaging, hence not driving at all, this is a safety mechanism on the transmission, DO NOT OVER FILL IT WITH OIL, this will destroy the transmission

I have a problem with my gear box i have a jeep grand cherokee

Your transmission apparently is not downshifting properly. From your description, it sounds as though it is in 2nd or 3rd gear, which is why it is slow to accelerate. When you shift into 1st, it is starting off in 1st gear as it should. You probably should have a transmission shop check it out. Check engine light on?
