I've got a slight ticking noise, but not at start-up. After the engine warms up, it will start out very faint and gradually get louder. After about 2 - 3 minutes, it goes away. This is a High M

This sounds like a tappet (cam follower/rocker arm) is at max clearance. This can be the sign of cam lobe wear or follower wear on its internal clearances or valve tip wear.

I bought a used 05 Silverado and it had started to get a ticking noise. I had one of the lifters replaced as it was determined that it was sticking. A week later the oil pump went. Replaced the pump and have not had any issues since.

SOURCE: Lifter ticking when I start my 1999 Chevy Tahoe

Your lifters have become clogged over the years. Its only after the oil warms up and thins out does it allow oil to "pump up" the lifters. That's why it goes quiet after 5 min. There are several different brands of additives on the market that can fix this problem ,unless you have a more serious mechanical problem, which I doubt.Check your local auto parts store for the additive. Just add it to your oil and "wham!" problem solved. Good Luck!

2.4l dohc ticking

Slight ticking is not a bad thing. Given the age of the engine, it is to be expected as things wear. Metal filings on the drain plug are not unusual either.

Honda passport problem

The louder noise and burnt smell possibly was the bearing getting worse, or going out, causing the belt to slip over the pullet and start heating up.
Was it a burnt rubber smell?

I don't see how this could have anything to do with the flywheel though.

Sounds like a rotating electrical device not connected to the drive belt, like a rad fan. Not sure if this engine has a vacuum pump, but that could also be what's making the noise.

What could engine ticking sound be?

all depends on how old the motor is. I would suspect the timing chain and tensioner,

I have a 2005 nissan altima. Which I hate, we've had nothing but problems with this car and now it is making a ticking noise which seems to be coming from the right side of the engine. Also it seems to...

A lot of times a ticking sound is the valves, which usually means a valve job when it gets bad enough.

But if it is a gentler tick sound it could be what is know as a wrist pin knock, which in some cases is not a big deal and others a big deal.

If the sound gets louder and louder, you will have to do something about it. But if it stays pretty constant then you monitor it, and look for other indications such as losing power, excessise oil use, etc.

1992 side kick

problem here is a ticking to one is a knock or a tap or a thud ect to others so of my experiance with engines if its a ticking that gets louder with the engine getting warmer its got to be the tappets its the only thing that would get louder if it gets louder when accelerating it could be ignition timming causes pinking most other things on engines that cause ticking sounds could be something catching fuel pumps cause a ticking noise but are not normally affected by engine temp yates210456

Ticking noise

usually when there is a ticking noise that changes as the rpm of the engine changes it could be that not all the components in the engine are properly lubricated. you may notice that noise occur temporarily when a car has been sitting for a while and all the oil runs to the bottom of the engine. as soon as the engine is running for a couple of seconds the noise goes away because oil is splashed on all those components. i recommend you check your oil level. i used to have a stealth with an oil leak...and i always knew when the oil was low because i would start to gradually hear the ticking noise. usually and hopefully that's it. it either that or you have bend rods that are slightly tappin on something else in there. but let's be a lil optimistic.
