I have had this van into 5 different mechanics. it has had 4 fuel pumps put in, new fuel filters, changed the connector to the fuel pump and the last time it was in they found corrodid wires uder the floorboard that went to the fuel pump. they fixed the wiring and it ran fine for 3 weeks and now it won't start again. the van turns over but will not start. the relay was replaced the last time the wiring got fixed, so I know it's not the relay. the recall on the vapor system was replaced in 1998, so that is apparently taken care of. does anyone have any idea what the probelm could be since 5 mechanics can't figure it out? has anyone encountered the same problem and found a solution? please help. Joe
Its real simple your crankshaft sensor is bad you need to replace it , the cost of the sensor is about $40 your problem will be solved.
The biggest problem with all g.m pump issues is the fuse block.even thou you test the fuel pump fuse and it is good! the problem is the female terminals in the box its self! take a test light and move the tabs closer together so fuse fits tight!
You need to always start with a basic tune up, spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter, as the vehicle will not perform well if any of these three are bad. Then check all vacuum lines for cracks or breaks and replace as needed. You can also add a fuel injector cleaner into the gas tank. I recommend the black bottle of STP concentrated fuel injector cleaner, and you can purchase that at most Wal-Mart's. Good luck :O)

we have the same problem on a 1995 olds silhouette
is that the box that sits over the battery where the fuel relay is? is that what you are referring to? Joe
yep, same problem here. Every two months, keeps not starting. (98 olds sihoulette) We have had the fuel pump replaced 3 times since November, by 3 different mechanics. Very expensive. Will not start again this morning. having it towed to the mechanic that replaced the last one with a warranty. I will tell him about the advice above about the female terminals. Any other ideas?
i have the same problem with my 2001 oldsmobile silhouette. I will turn but will not crank. I have had tune, coil pack replaced, and almost oxygens censors replaced till i realized it was in my fuse box that sits over the battery. If will die and i will have to take the cover off. Push down on it and it will crank back up. I finally opened it up and pushed the wires in underneath. Everything that i was getting a code on that wasn't working started working. It works for a while, but i guess the wires come loose again and i have to do it again.
