1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette won't start

I have had this van into 5 different mechanics. it has had 4 fuel pumps put in, new fuel filters, changed the connector to the fuel pump and the last time it was in they found corrodid wires uder the floorboard that went to the fuel pump. they fixed the wiring and it ran fine for 3 weeks and now it won't start again. the van turns over but will not start. the relay was replaced the last time the wiring got fixed, so I know it's not the relay. the recall on the vapor system was replaced in 1998, so that is apparently taken care of. does anyone have any idea what the probelm could be since 5 mechanics can't figure it out? has anyone encountered the same problem and found a solution? please help. Joe

yep, same problem here. Every two months, keeps not starting. (98 olds sihoulette) We have had the fuel pump replaced 3 times since November, by 3 different mechanics. Very expensive. Will not start again this morning. having it towed to the mechanic that replaced the last one with a warranty. I will tell him about the advice above about the female terminals. Any other ideas?

i have the same problem with my 2001 oldsmobile silhouette. I will turn but will not crank. I have had tune, coil pack replaced, and almost oxygens censors replaced till i realized it was in my fuse box that sits over the battery. If will die and i will have to take the cover off. Push down on it and it will crank back up. I finally opened it up and pushed the wires in underneath. Everything that i was getting a code on that wasn't working started working. It works for a while, but i guess the wires come loose again and i have to do it again.

The biggest problem with all g.m pump issues is the fuse block.even thou you test the fuel pump fuse and it is good! the problem is the female terminals in the box its self! take a test light and move the tabs closer together so fuse fits tight!

Van idles fine when excellerating van loses power lopes@will not go over 10 mph

Start by testing fuel pressure. If not at specs, change filter and fuel pump. Pressure should be high, probably in the 40-50 psi range, any shop could tell you specified pressure. Also check for trouble codes, use a scanner.

Van acts like the fuel filter is plugged, and losses power when going up hills

Do you have a fuel pump? If its bad or weak, you aren't getting enough gas to your engine. Has anyone thought of the filter in your gas tank?

How to change the fuil filter

The filter should be in the fuel line under the van. One side is threaded and the other uses a plastic clip to release.
Make sure you release fuel pressure before disconnecting the lines.

Won't stay running, fuel pump ok, neighbor mechanic said it does go on when I turn key. Had under 1/4 tank, warmed van up and went out 10 mins. later, stalled. added over 2 gallons on gas, on incline. Will...

You need to always start with a basic tune up, spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter, as the vehicle will not perform well if any of these three are bad. Then check all vacuum lines for cracks or breaks and replace as needed. You can also add a fuel injector cleaner into the gas tank. I recommend the black bottle of STP concentrated fuel injector cleaner, and you can purchase that at most Wal-Mart's. Good luck :O)

1994 silhouette oldsmobile van..Put new fuel filter and coil packs in it turns over but still wont start what else could be the problem?

If it will run on starter fluid your ignition is ok and you are not getting fuel. That could be the fuel pump- listen to gas tank(the pump is in the tank) when you turn ignition to on(not start)-you should hear it kick in then stop when it reaches the proper pressure-no sound bad fuel pump or blown fuse.If the pressure is incorrect or the pressure sensor is bad-it will not start. The Fuel injectors are controlled by a control module that is under the dash and runs $100.00- I just replaced one.

Have a fuel pressure test done to determine if proper pressure is there. At very least change fuel filter.

2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette ran out of gas,now it won't start HELP

Put the gas in the tank, let everything settle, turn key off, then back on to on position, but NOT start. Let the fuel relay engage the pump and draw some gas pressure. Give it a good minute and it'll start right up.
