I notice when I turn the AC on the compressor does not run. No noises at all. Just warm air from the fan being on.

Turns out there was a hole in a hose. The mechanic is also telling me I have to replace the dryer because it has been "open" due to the hole in that hose. Would this be accurate?

SOURCE: 97 Olds Aurora AC blowing warm air a day after recharging system

Several- The system should hold freon for years without leaking. There are pressure switches and they cut off the compressor with an undercharge and an overcharge. You need guages to measure the charge. There are testers the A/C shops have called "sniffers" which can detect a leak. If you have no leak then you need a technician to add or remove freon to get the concentration right. Or you need guages.

3.5L Olds Aurora: Had overheating. Cold air blowing, decompression in motor.

You have (at best) blown a head gasket, or (at worst) cracked the block of the engine.
Cars today, being mostly aluminum, break in this manner rather easily.
Repairs will cost you many hundreds or a few thousands of dollars. The car cannot be used until the engine is repaired.
God bless your efforts.

Well, if a mechanic on-site can't find the problem, you probably need a technician trained on Pontiac or GM systems.
Automotive systems today are so complicated and diverse, I couldn't even hazard a guess, and I've worked on cars and trucks for over 30 years. Us shadetree mechanics have just about seen our waterloo. Sorry, Denise.

I noticed my ac in my 2004 Corolla with 138,000 miles wasn't blowing as cold in recent months. I've never had the AC serviced in the 8 years I've owned it. So I used one of those 12 ounce self...

If this was happening to me.... I'd goto an airconditioning re-gas centre and get them to check for gas leaks. In my old commodore the Evaporator Core was leaking and causing some of the issues you have mentioned.

1998 Olds Aurora, no heat, no air, just blowing air out the front

i beleive these are a vacuum system. if air temp is in cold position you will get no heat. listen for hissing noise with motor turned off but key on. if you hear hissing noise you have a hose broken or off. you will have to find it
