Can a faulty theft system drain your battery?

I went to start my 2002 malibu tonight and it wouldn't start, though all lights, radio and gauges came on. Jumped the battery, nothing. I suspect the anti-theft system since the light came on a few days ago, but went off and didn't come back on, but does flash when the car is put in On mode, without a full start. However, now when I try it, the car is getting no power whatsoever. Any suggestions?

I agree with Andrew about the battery and connections. If the battery is down, we're just spinning our wheels. You need to get it charged up.
My info says you have passlock security system, the majority of these systems are fuel injector disable, only. I looked at your starter wiring circuit, if my wiring diagram is correct, your security system has no control over starter motor circuit.
With passlock, it is the key cylinder that is matched to the security system, not the key. The key is just a mechanical key.

SOURCE: car will not start-battery is fine

Try this Put your key in turn it on dont start wait 10 mins remove key wait 10 seconds repeat this a total of 3 times. Your theft light should go out. As long as the light is on your fuel system is disabled. If that dont work try a different key do the same thing. If that dont work a dealer needs to probably replace and reprogram your ignition switch and keys

SOURCE: dont know how to reset or bypass gm theft system car is not starting .It tries and quits.

this is one way to reset it :
first make sure the battery is fully charged , then do the following:
key in the ignition but do not crank the motor, just leave it at the
ignition mode for ten minutes ,then turn it off POSITION for 5 seconds then REPEAT again 2 more times. at the 3 rd time youre gonna notice the ANTI THEFT light on dash to blink. when doing the last step , remove key , inserted again and turn on motor , good luck , AJ

Well it is an ignition problem or key problem or even REK remote entry key is bad or needs a battery in it needs to be replaced or the key might have a chip that needs programming and you will need a licensed locksmith or dealer to reprogram it for you

2001 Chev Malibu. Turn key on to start car, won't start. No warning lights on no lights on gauge panel. Radio works, dome light work.

check the ground leg to your engine.. it runs off the neg. battery terminal. will connect to frame and engine.. pull it off, wire brush it put it back.. you radio will work, 'cause it draws much less current, and is grounded in dash.

Dashboard lights and gauges go out, windows won't work

Your alternator is out. Those are classic symptoms of alternating going out. The alternator recharges your electrical system and when it goes out a list of strange things go on inside the dash, and you won't be able to go very far on just a battery. I'm glad you at least made it home. But yes you will need a new alternator for sure. Please rate this response so I can get my ratings back up to 90% at least.

I have a 2001 L100 seires Saturn and My service light and the security light both are on and the car wont start. the battery seems to be fine all the lights work i left it alone for a while and it started...

No, the fuel gauge not working wouldn't have anything to do with your not starting problem , probably the gauge is bad . With the SECURITY light lit , anti-theft system problem ! Service light ????? Service engine soon ? Or service vehicle ? With the light's on code's DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are stored . Have it checked , don't guess as to what the problem is. This would prevent the buying of un needed parts .

02 malibu won't start

If car won;t start, but turns over it may be the anti theft system. Follow the directions in the manual-turn the key on and leave it for ten minutes or until the anti theft light goes out. Turn the ignition OFF and then restart the engine. If you continue to have problems with the anti theft system, disconnect the battery for 4 or 5 minutes and then reconnect. It seems to reset the system. Found this out after a mech. had worked on the system, disconnected the battery and told me it would be 400 to 500 to replace the module. Said no thanks and drove off to never have the problem again (so far!) 10,000 mile since.
