This problem sounds intermittent. To ensure fuel pump is working, open fuel door and have an assistant turn on ignition switch to on position (NOT START POSITION) and listen for pump to make a whirling sound. Do this a few times after shutting switch off. Also, If you dont here pump whirling, you can spray starting fluid into air cleaner. If it starts , then its the pump
IS IT GETTING SPARK ? IS THERE FUEL PRESSURE ? WHEN YOO TURN THE KEY YOU SHOULD HEAR THE FUEL PUMP KICK IN OR MAKE A HUMMING SOUND , IF YOU DONT, YOU MORE THAN LIKELY NEED A FUEL PUMP.
Did you change the fuel 8 dollar fuel filter in the back under the truck? You should fuel rails usually are not a problem ever in a bigger ford lincoln, Did you check all relays, locating the fuel shut off relay? why i ask, is when you turn the key to the point beofre start the ford goes wheeee, and thats the fuel pump priming its self, if you dont hear that you need to check your fuses, then locate the relay that controls that, ten dont get a new relay, just carfully crack the out side of it off, because its a little magnetic electical switch inside the relay which you can just push on to see if that is the problem, before you buy a new relay, its free.
Take it to Ford and have them run their troubleshooting machine on it.Costs about 70 bucks and sometimes if they do the repair, this cost is removed from the bill. Ask Ford. don-ohio
If the truck has 75-100,000 miles then it is very likely it is the fuel pump, when it quit did it just turn off or did it loose power and then shut off?
yes the fuel pump is running, you know because when you put the key up and ready to start you can hear it. I know just what you are talking about I have had that same problem. It is about a $4,00 part should not be more then $10.00. So open the hood and then go to the fuse box you will want to change the fuel pump relay that is in the middle of power point and pcm power relay. Also there is another that has to do with the fuel and that is called fuel system this part is located on the right side of the fuse box and the other is on the left.
I hope that you have every thing work out for you please let me know what happens I hope it works out well.
