The car died while driving. Acted like a fuel pump had stopped. Towed it home and tested fuel prssure at the fuel rail and it passes. I checked the fuse for the fuel injectors and it was blown. I replaced the fuse and we tried to restart the engine. As soon as we tried to start the car the new fuse blew. What is the best way to find the source of the short?
Locate the "ground" side of the fuse connector (the side that goes to the injectors and DOES NOT go to the battery).
Connect an ohm meter between the ground side of the fuse connector and the battery NEGATIVE post. The short will show a resistance of less than 5 ohms.
With the meter connected as above, start unplugging all of the connectors that are involved in that circuit one at a time to isolate the short. (you will know you found it when the resistance reading goes way up).
Fortunately, this is an easy one. That fuse feeds the injectors, and NOTHING else. (see partial Power Distribution diagram below) You most likely have a shorted injector. If unplugging the injectors one at a time does not find the problem child, then you need to check the wiring harness between the injectors and the fuse block to see if it is rubbed through or pinched.

The Saturn Fuel pump relay and fuse is located undar the panes on the passenger side of the center console near the passengers left foot there are two relays there that look identical one is fuel pump relay. Just switch them around they are bot the same and see if the fuel pump runs now also the fuel pump fuse is in there i can't send diaagrams on fixya because their program will not let them go through if you need one email me at [email protected] Please give me a fixya rating if this information is helpful to you

You need to get the schematic / wiring diagram . There is a junction block in the center console where the wiring is routed to the entire car. The contact on the power wire to the pump gets burned /dirty and becomes intermittant . It needs to be cleaned .This happened to me twice.

My 94 SW1 did the same thing, that is the same basic engine but a SOHC. I replaced the crank position sensor which is in the block behind the starter and the problem went away. There are most likely other problems which can cause stalling, vapor lock due to bad gas cap for one, but mine was fixed by replacing the sensor. Bit of problem getting to it, but you were already in the area when you replaced the fuel filter.

replace blown fuse with equal value, and diode. The low pressure switch needs to be replaced
