Probably bad u-joints. I am not a mechanic, but just replaced mine. You may want to jack it up, remove the tire and spin the hub while looking at the u-joint right there behind the rotor. Obviously there are 2 u-joints, one for each front wheel. Not all that hard to replace, call me if you want some tricks that I learned the other day.

all wheel drive is four wheel drive , i think you mean back to 2 wheel drive , no way to bypass the four drive switch , have to take to a transmission specialist
first chiltons maunual can be bought at almost any auto zone type stores as far as 4x4 system this book can give arundown on almost all issues with you truck
