2003 vibe emission light

Emission light came on. Garage reset the emission light and told me to drive it to put it though the drive cycle. Two or 3 tanks of gas and 2 months later, the onboard diagnostic device still doesn't give any readings and it won't pass air care until it has gone through the "drive cycle".

Sometimes the emission light will come on if the gasket on the gas cap is worn or dirty, thus not sealing properly. If it doesn't look worn, then try cleaning it.

SOURCE: check gauges light

Possible bad guage, bad wiring, or bad sending unit. Check each one independently of each other, start with wiring first, then sending unit.

SOURCE: 2006 Pontiac Vibe -

Not necessary the pump. you need to have an OBDII reader to read the codes. It could be alot of things . AutoZone will do it free. They also have the OBDII Reader as a loaner tool.

I have a 2011 Jetta TDI that fails CA smog test. The car is a 6 speed with only 37k miles. The.Smog shop said I needed to run a "drive cycle" on the car. What exactly IS that?

There are several monitors in your computer and whenever the computer is reset to turn off the check engine light, the monitors have to run a full cycle to show that they are good. Even though your check engine light might not be lit, the state will not pass emissions unless all drive cycles have been cleared. If you reset the check engine light, you might as well fix the error that caused it to light or you will not be able to pass the emission test. If there isn't an issue, you should be able to just drive for a couple of days for the cycles to complete.

2006 Pontiac Vibe won't start - It appears NOT to be the battery or a bad neutral switch. What else should I try?

If you disconnect the battery, you need to reset the security system. You need to find out why it didn't start when you came out of the store though, and for that you need an auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer.

I have a 2002 honda accord 4 cyl. that is reading on obd2 7 monitors ready ,1 inc egr , can anyone ell me what this means if it is not ready.

Whenever power is completely removed from a vehicle (disconnect the battery), active trouble codes are erased and all system monitors are reset. This is primarily to prevent 'turning off' the check engine light just before emissions inspection. Most states require that all monitors (or a specific number of them) be in a 'ready' status.
For the monitors to 'pass' checks and attain a 'ready' status, specific conditions must be met, usually involving 'drive cycles'. Some system monitors will reset very quickly - one drive cycle or less. Some take longer - more drive cycles or other conditions (usually the evaporative emission cycle requires fuel be between 1/4 and 3/4 of a tank of fuel).
If your car recently had the battery disconnected or replaced, you may have to drive it a few more times to get all monitors into a 'ready' status. If the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) monitor does not reset, check with a dealer or a good garage on what parameters must be met to reset this monitor.

Hi , I just bought a 2004 Xterra w no plates. I cant register it without an emissions test. One garage did the test and it failed.

you probably can find a tech to do this for you but keep in mind that you will be paying for however long it takes for all the drive cycles to run.

Reset check engine light

The light could be blinking because you haven't driven it enough for it to register. Drive it for awhile and check again. If the light still blinks, you will need to know what code it has.

I have a toyota corolla 2003 and recently went for an emissions test and passed. The day after my emission test, the engine light went on. I tried to unscrew and rescrew the gas tank cap, but it didn't...

After tightening the gas cap, you will have to drive the car a few 'cycles' before the light goes off. If that doesn't work, have the trouble codes read to find out exactly what is wrong and causing the light to illuminate.

Land rover 2003 check engine light on. Drive cycle needed

Clear the codes per factory specs, you must drive the car for at least a week normal driving in order for the computer to reset itself to have all sensors in ready mode to be scanned for emissions testing or it will fail emissions due to the computer sensors showing NOT READY MODE, which the mechanic may not tell you about in order to sell you services you don't need.

I have engine light on and code 1457 on 1999 Odyssey. Please help!!!!!!!!!

That code is "evaporative emission control system leakage. (evap. canister system)"

this code takes at least two drive cycles to set. You can try to reset the engine light and emission computer and clear the code and see if the code resets. If it stays clear, it was probably a spurious code. To reset the engine light and emission computer, pull the No. 13 "clock/backup" (7.5A) fuse in the front passenger's kick panel fuse box. Wait at least 10 seconds. Put the fuse back in. This should put the check engine light out. If the light comes back on after two drive cycles (that is; start, run for a while, turn off X 2) have it checked out by a mechanic.
