My car won't start with the key so we had to install a "Mechanics trigger remote start" directly to the starter...Sometimes this works, sometimes we have to "feather" the gas to keep it going...and even that doesn't always work. But once we get it running it runs fine. HELP!!
Without doing testing we'd only be guessing ,having a qualified repair shop run diagnostic's on it would be your best bet .

SOURCE: 07Saturn Ion having trouble starting & lingering gas smell.
the gas smell is from all the gas into the clylinders when it dont start,,,normal,,,,,,the no start issue is from the electrical ignition switch goes bad when it gets cold out and doesnt let the car start,,you need a new ignition switch like $40 and reprogram it to the car,i would take it to the dealer, asap because right now you are lucky that it does eventually start, one day it will not start at all so get this fixed before you get stuck
SOURCE: My 2003 Saturn Ion remote trunk release won't
Check to make sure the button on the trunk latch is turned from manual unlock...they made that feature so only the key will work to open the trunk that way if someone breaks in the front of your car they can't hit the trunk release and get into the trunk...may be the same thing for your remote. Hope that helps.

Good luck
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position. There is no need to start the car.
Press the button located in the center of the instrument cluster ONCE. The display should now read "OIL LIFE" instead of vehicle mileage.
