When brakes approach the point where they need quick replacement you will hear a high-pitched squealing noise whenever you apply the brakes. This is caused by "wear sensor" material in the pads/shoes that's designed to get your attention. Your problem is more likely either clutch or transmission related. Bill B
water pump bearings ,change it a bit quick if it is ,but get a hands on answer from a proper mechanic and not a spares counter assistant.and no iam not popping around for a quick look as 10 hrs on a plane doesnt help my back
never had that problem with my GS400 but on my 95 maxima, i used to have that same high pitch squealing noise... i used some belt dressing that i got from R & S Strauss for a few dollars and sprayed it on my belts and pulleys that ran around the alternator, compressor, etc. and never heard the noise again. hope your problem is as simple and cheap to fix as mine was
I had the same problem on my 2005 Envoy. Turned out to be the idler pulley bearing. It is just a pulley the belt rides on. The bearing in the pulley was what was making the high pitched whine. I replaced the bearing, and the noise went away.
does the noise and light occour at the same time ? another cause of a high pitched noise can be slipping drive belts, alternator, powersteering etc so check them for tightness, condition etc, does the noise happen when car staionary and just rev the engine ? if so i would say it is the drive belt/s, go back to the VW dealer re the ABS light and get them to check the OBD as should be done as part of the service , hope this helps
