Question about 1997 Dodge Dakota
Most of the time i need to press the cruise control 3-6 times before it will work. sometimes i need to hold the cruise control button down 4-6 sec. until it will come on. and sometimes it still will not come on. sometimes when it does come on and working i connot turn it off(cruise not engaged, slowing down when back up to speed, hit res, will not reengage).
Hi, This needs a new cruise control switch fitting not a job for the faint hearted there are a lot of wires that need to be connected properly, recommend any good vehicle electrics company or cruise control specialist is best. Please give feedback at firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks, Malcolm Campbell.

This vehicle has what is known as a flasher unit, it is a relay assembly under the dash. This is the relay that clicks when your signals are on. it may need to be replaced. Another possible trouble spot could be the wiring in the steering column. Are there any other issues with horn, cruise etc.
Check the flasher first and get back to me.

More than likely problem is with rear speed sensor. It is located on top of rear differential. New from dealer is about $35.00. A lot of the time you can remove the old one and give it a good cleaning. Easy to repair but just be careful that you dont break it off.

The problem is the coiled ribbon contact under the steering wheel (we call it the clock-spring contact) that connects the stereing wheel controls to the steering column wiring harness, this is a printed circuit that is coiled to allow the wheel to move and still have a psychical contact for the wheel switch's and the airbag, anyway replace that contact coil, u must disarm the airbag to do this repair, follow the factory procedure to do this or serious injury can result if the airbag fires.

It sounds like your multifunction switch is faulty and will need to be replaced. The multifunction switch is a combination of your signal and wiper/washer switches all in one unit and is not servicable and is replaced as a whole unit .
