Problem with a 2006 ford focus My battery light cam on the other day and i brought it to autozone. Checked the battery and it was bad. Got a new battery put in and checked it again. The battery and altenator worked fine. Went to start it up the next day and it starts fine but within 5 seconds the battery light comes on. The automatic locks went off three times by themselves. I brought it back to autozone but the battery and altenator check out just fine! I dont know whats wrong with the damn thing! The gas light came on and it took a good 5 minutes for it to realize i had put gas in the car. What could possibly be wrong. The altenator was replaced in august of 2010 and the battery is brand new and only 2 days old Please help!

The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled . Your vehicle is a rolling computer .The instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside , there is also a body computer ( SJB ) smart junction box , Engine computer etc... they all communicate on a serial data network , C.A.N - controller area network . It's hard to know what's wrong when you don't know how it works . There could be codes stored in the computers , these will not always turn on the check engine light .

This may be as simple as needing to tighten your battery cables better. I would also check the ground on your alternator this may not be hooked up as well. If you ran your battery off of the old bad alternator for awhile the CCA's in the battery might be bad. The battery can have enough volts for your system but not enough cold cranking amps to get your car to turn over correctly or to keep a charge as well. I would also check spark plug wires, coil pack wires, the end of the spark plugs just to be safe you know. Autozone does free system checks as well so they can pretty much pin point an electrical service problem for you for free.

Sounds like the Fuel Pump, which is located in the Gas Tank, ahead of the rear wheels, basically under the rear door. The gas tank itself is not hard to remove, and you could get a kit available online. It's probably easier to do if you have ramps and back the rear wheels onto those two ramps, you can't do it as easily by just jacking up the car. If you have two hydraulic jacks, that might work as well.

If you buy the part, you want to bring it to a gas station to remove the gas tank, they should be able to do all the work for you in about one hour.

Lead acid batteries don't like being discharged flat, and it could now be damaged and unable to hold a charge. It does sound as though the voltage regulator part of the alternator is allowing discharge to ground when it should not. You would seem to have a good warranty claim on the battery given they did check the alternator and pronounce it OK.

2006 focus battery drain

The light stays on? then that is the drain, check and see if you pull fuse that controls that light will battery still drain. i would bet that this is the problem, if it is the problem let me know in a few days and i will check a wiring diagram to try and see what controls that light. i believe the keyless entry module does but lets see if that is the problem.

try removing the dashlight fuse over night or even light few, until that light goes out and let me know.

With a multimeter check the voltage at battery terminals. Should be more than 12.6Volts when engine off, and at least 14 volts with engine on. If the battery voltage is less than 12.6 volts then you need a new battery. If the voltage is less than 14 Volts with running engine, then the alternator is not working properly. A stop at AutoZone might help. They scan codes, and check alternators for free.

Battery light stays on

the battery light has nothing to do with the battery itself, it is indicating that there is a problem with the alternator that charges the battery, most likely a defective rectifier bridge diode has failed.
