After fitting the cables! You need to adjust the GATE cable as each gearbox has slightly different wear... One cable selects the gears.. The other is responsible for the smooth gear selection! Sounds like your out of line mate! Theres an adjustable thread on the GATE cable! Keep adjusting til it selects smoothly! JOB DONE SAAAAAAN!! :-)

OK, if it's a cluth probelm then you either need a new clutch, or it's a problem with the slave cylinder. I've even heard if as simple a problem as the bolts holding the slave clynider coming loose, so when you press the clutch, the slave actually moves. If you're having troubles getting it into gear (metal on metal) your shift linkage bushings could be worn. There are 2 on the shifter end, and 2 on the transmission end. I recommend replacing them with a more solid bushing from ****** Racing (www.boogerracing.com) that will give a much more confident feel than the stock rubber bushings.

Adjust your selector cable. Put selecror in N. Loosen the nut of the cable on the tranny. Move the gearbox selector untill the two smole hles line up. Insert philips screwdriver in the holes and tighten your cable bolt securely.

Jerky Renault Scenic

Try and adjust the kick down switch. My Corolla which has a cable was hunting between second and third and even the lightest accelleration made it change gear. I adjusted the outer cable making it longer until it now only kicks down on quite heavy accelleration. Much smoother.

Gear change

Hi
It is the syncromesh, inside the gearbox, difficult to repair, most often you need to replace the gearbox although someone who was familiar with Renaults be able to, is yours the hydrolic clutch or cable??

If its the cable type you may be able to adjust it so it does not pop out of gear, but you will always have the little crunch coming down into third.

All the bearings were worn !!!! had to buy a wole bearing kit, £170 . plus labour, lot cheaper than getting it reconditioned by specialists!!! they wanted £1000 for doing exactly what my mate has done for me. Hope this helps you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Renault clio clutch adjust

If the problem is just a clutch cable (clio 55 plate should be cable, not hidraulic), you can adjust or replace the clutch cable quit easily.

If the problem concerns instead the clutch disk, then you will need to put a car up on a bridge, empty the oil and fluid, and remove the clutch that is attached on the engine, on the right lower side.
This is usually not a job for home repair.

My 1997 renault clio 1.2 will not go into5th gear and struggle in the rest.sometimes when i hit 1st its actually in reverse and vice versa

Struggling to get gears is usually a sign that the clutch is not completely disengaging from the gearbox, you should get the clutch cable checked for adjustment.
