We are buying a 1995 Chevy Astro van that has 215,000 miles but was very well maintained. He has changed the transmission, radiator, door/window locks and various other things but not the timing chain. One friend told us it is not necessary with this vehicle. Please advise.
Thanks!
Gail
Hello g_venegas,typically the timing chain should be replaced between 60 - 80,000 miles, of course the condition and how the vehicle was treated makes a big difference, so with 215,000 miles every day is a blessing regardless of how great shape the rest of it is, the big issue here is that if if fails during operation the repair cost will be considerably more than the timing chain, this of course is a decision you have to make. hope this helps you :) good luck
