Fuel sensors or other causes?

My Vue has about 137,000 miles on it. I recently bought it from a private owner who took good care of the car. She was in an accident about 7 months ago (getting rearended) and the car sat in her driveway until I bought it a week ago. I have only had it on the road two days, and it seems every other time i try to drive my car, when i hit the gas pedal, it powers off. By this I mean, zero RPMS and I have to turn the car off and turn it back off to get even to the side of the road. Everything else seems to work great. Question is, would having something to do with the fuel sensors since it was in an accident, or a fuel filter, since it only happens when i am trying to give it gas. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Please kindly run a scan on the car to be sure of the exact problem.

SOURCE: 97 Saturn SL1 leaking antifreeze, high RPMs, uses excessive gas

wow it sounds like you have a few problems going on. One, your idle speed is set too high and needs to be lowered. Two, i would replace your temperature sensor so that you can monitor your overheating. As well as try and see where the leaking is coming from (i.e. the radiator cap, on the radiator itself, or where the hoses run into the engine-could be engine temperature sensor). Three, if you have to prime your engine at first to get it to run then more than likely fuel pump is going bad.

SOURCE: sl2 stalls while driving or when starting.

Wow... if the whole car is doing that i would guess it to be electrical issues.like a bad ground...basically a major cable that connects to your frame or directly to the negative side of the battery. You see, electricity leaves its source makes a device operate then the electricity goes back to the source. kinda like a big circle... when you start your car...the battery gets you going...then...the Alternator takes over...recharges the battery while making your car operate on an electrical standpoint. if you break that circle...lights out...be it the wires losing contact. battery failure( usually they STAY dead) or it could be an alternator with an intermittent problem. Based on a money stand point...your battery is fine...i'd replace the alternator...not trusting it after all that. (100- 300 bucks) if it STILL does it..then have a mechanic replace your wiring harness associated with the ignition, starter, alternator and battery( should be just one bundle of wires to fit that portion) .200 to 400 bucks to get that replaced. i hope this helps you out with finding out what the problem is...and i'm sorry to say...getting a fuel filter and fuel pump replacement would not cause a radio to lose power...the battery is like a back up system. don't go back to that mechanic ever again..as he is ripping you off. im an electrician so i know about electricity and i also tinker with cars quite a bit for fun.

How often should I replace the fuel filter?

ok a car that you got used is never a bad idea to replace the fuel filter it is basic and low cost more importantly you should look up the year make and model and perform the required listed maintenance, when you get a used car like i always do you should get up to date on all required fixes because if you want ti to last and you care you never can be sure if the old owners took care of this stuff.-

I recently bought a 2003 Santa Fe. It's burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles.

Hi,
If you do some more research you'll see that 1 Qt per 1K miles is considered acceptable, as the dealer stated....not that I agree either!

You may try replacing the PCV valve and ensuring the valves are adjusted properly.

Also, try a different oil - maybe a different weight may help.

I WOULD replace the O2 sensor as it can affect the amount of fuel that is used and may actually dilute the oil if it's getting past the rings.

Just to ensure the engine is healthy you can get a Compression and Leakdown test down. This will tell you the 'health' of the engine.

Go look on the Hyundai/Kia forums for oil consumption, too. You might come across something specific to your model.

My son has a 2003 Saturn Vue which he bought used and has had less than 2 years. Recently the odometer and fuel gauge will quit working, it is random and but oddly will just as randomly start working...

It's either the BCM or the speed sensor, have it scanned with a a gm tech 2 scanner or equivelant to pinpoint the problem. I hope this helps.

I recently purchased car with 137,000 miles. Trac off/ABS light comes on often. Please advise if major problem and possible solution.

check for a bad hub bearing play in the bearing will cause a misalignment with the wheel speed sensor...check for a broken tone ring on the cv shaft....an have codes pulled to see if u have lost wheel speed sensor signal..move service stations can do this at a reasonable cost.... as for it being major it is not the brakes will still function but ur antilock brakes wont work

99 4runner V6 timing belt replacement at HOW many miles? I bought a used vehicle with 137,000 miles and owner says he did not have the belt replaced. My mechanic says a good idea, but Toyota schedule does...

I have a 97 and also did not find a recommendation in the manual. I found through a Toyota machanic frien that it should be done at 100,000 miles and I did it. You don't want the belt to slip or break so do it now for peace of mind and to avoid a major engine repair bill. Hope this helps. You might want to do the water pump, tensioner and belt rollers at the same time.

2007 Saturn VUE Green Line recommendation

Our family has owned Saturns since 1992. They've always been reliable out-performers, until the most recent one. I took delivery of my 2007 Hybrid Vue on 31 May, 2007. From the first tankful of gas, the mileage has been woefully short of the projections - worst case was 19 and best was 32 on the freeway at 70 mph and no air conditioning. Most recently, I drove the Vue down I-95 in Florida at around 70 and no A/C. Mileage? 28. Do the math. That's about 3 mpg better than my first Vue would have gotten. At $3 a gallon, it'll take me approximately 233,000 miles to recoup the $3000 premium I paid for the car. If you live in a climate where air conditioning is not a means of survival in the summer, then this car might be OK.
