run the fault codes to find the sensor that is putting the light on and replace/repair the faulty unit. It is simply very false economy to run tanks empty as the fuel pumps need fuel to lubricate the gears and if that is intermittent of not there that plastic gears fail and pumps are not cheap.
Try this. When you first try to turn your engine on, keep your foot on the gas pedal. The car should turn over but not start. (don't worry, its not supposed to). Take your foot off the gas and turn the ignition on again, but Don't touch the throttle this time. That should set your choke correctly. To summarise: Turn key with foot on Gas. Take foot off Gas, and turn key again.
It may go out on its own, the next time the computer does a routine system check. If two or three runs around town over the next few days doesn't clear it, only a dealer or a good mechanic with the proper scanner can turn it off.
You need to put the key on and push the gas pedal to the floor three times within five second to reset the oil life light. Some g.m.'s have a reset buttom in the fuse panel that needs to be pushed first and some don't.Check the owners manual under change oil for your specific year car.
It sounds like the torque converter is locked up. Possible a bad torque converter or converter solenoid. First thing you should try is unplugging the solenoid plug on the transmission. Drivers side, near the shifter. Not the three pin connector near the pan on the same side. The connector you want is higher than the reverse light plug.
don't know the answer to this; but we have the same prob with our 97 contour; when starting out and driving at times to it "misses" alot and the check engine light has been on for over 2 years! lol
