95 Isuzu Rodeo AC problem

My AC doesn't work correctly and I can't figure it out. It is nice and cold when the compressor is running the trouble is that the compressor will not stay on. Most of the time it won't come on at all. The light on the AC button stays iluminated when the button is pressed, the relay and fuse are both good. I am thinking this is an electrical problem because I had a shop evacuate and recharge the system and I still have the same problem. Their best guess was that the radiator was clogged and the pressure would build up too high and shut off the compressor but I don't think that fits the symptoms. Especially since now it won't come on at all.

3 things I am thinking. Either 1 the AC button is not working or 2 the thermostat that turns on and off the compressos is not working or 3 the leaking valve covers have leaked so much oil into the compressor electronics that they are shorting out.

Any guesses? Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem with my 97 rodeo. The compressor comes on and cools for a few minutes and then goes off. If I turn off the ac button for a few minutes and turn it back on and the ac runs fine for a few more minutes. I checked the charge and it's fine.

I know by now you repaired the problem or sold the truck. but your right in your ideas, I'm just a shade tree, but these isuzu's ****, the tapping, lifters, the hydrulic timming belt tightner, **** on all of it. the a/c, I've replaced the electric fan, chased all the harneses down, replaced the relay under the hood, all thats left is what your thinking of, I will let you know tomorrow. does your belt squeal at times? change your water pump. if it goes it will upset the timming belt and all hell breaks loose, mine cut threw the belt covers ripped the belt up. fun! today is June 18, 2009,

I will jump it at the relay tomorrow. I may have mis spoke on the radiator. I meant the part in front of the radiator. Where the high temperature high pressure R134a goes to be cooled. Is that the evaporator or condenser? Either way, their theroy was that some contaminates are restricting the flow in there but their gauges wern't showing it

I have a 95 isuzu holden rodeo. My a/c compressor is not getting power to it? I have changed the fuses and relays.Compressor works and blows cold air if i hard wire it? What could be my problem?

there are several switches that control the compressor
one is a low pressure switch that will stop the compressor if there is a gas leak
the next is a high pressure switch that will stop the compressor if the condenser fan stops or there is a blockage in the line after the compressor which results in too higher a pressure that will destroy the compressor
next there is a relay controlled by the thermostat that controls the compressor to cycle it when cabin temperature is reached
I suggest that you have an accredited ac specialist shop diagnose the problem as it can get costly

What causes the ac on a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo to turn on occasionally?

If the compressor is engaging when it should not be, the problem could be the compressor clutch or a faulty relay.
The compressor normally runs in defrost as well as ac.

What are the gauge readings ? Is the freon flowing thru the system ?

2001 Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo a/c not getting cold, fan in grill not turning, there is plenty of freon and inside controls/fan working fine. Is there a fuse for the other fan?

Yes there is a fuse for the other fan, generally inside the engine bay as apposed to inside the vehicle. I would think it is more likely to be the clutch on your compressor unit that is not engaging when you press the AC button. In this case the fuse on the AC button is responsible and this is also found inside the engine bay. Check either of these fuses and you should get the AC working. If not then there may be insufficient pressure in your AC system or your compressor unit needs changing out.

Ac compressor on 99 isuzu rodeo turns on and off . already filled with freon. air is cold but not consistently

Does it have the correct amount of freon, it can still blow cold with the wrong amout of freon, this will damage the compressor, you may also have a bad cycling switch or bad high preasure switch and even a bad connection to ac system, this first thing is to make sure the correct amount was installed,

COULD BE A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS. HAVE YOU TRIED TO SWAP THE A/C RELAY FOR ANOTHER? IT COULD BE A BAD ACCUMULATOR SWITCH OR A CLOGGED ORIFICE TUBE, OR A DEFECTIVE LOW PRESSURE CUT-OFF SWITCH. TOO MANY TO LIST. TRY THE RELAY AND LET ME KNOW. HOPE THIS HELPS. BEST OF LUCK. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND HONEST RATING IN ADVANCE.
