Im driving on the fwy. and these two lights come red lightning bolt and bas lite. the car has no power in excelleration. i pull the car over and restart the engine. it runs for a while and the lights come on again. i cannot drive the car in this condition. it is really stressful. i took it to a mechanic and the check engine lite never came on. he could not even get a code out of it. again very stressful. what can i do. i am spending unnecessary money and the problem is still not fixed. help me please.
It sounds to me like you need to find a mechanic that knows what he is doing. The "Red lighning bolt" Is the electroninc throttle control (ETC) warning lamp. Your mechanic is probably not getting any codes because he is probably using a cheap generic OBD code reader that can only access continuous memory fault codes. Most of these code readers cannot access current codes, manufacturer specific codes, or read the data stream from the computer.
You should also access the OBD readiness monitors to see if any of them are showing "Not Complete". This can be a very good indication that the PCM is losing battery power intermittently. There are several things that can be tested and verified without any codes.
With all that said, you should also be aware that 2005 Dodge Magnums that fit certain VIN criteria, equipped with 2.7L engines are subject to a service campaign (voluntary manufacturer recall) for problems with the electronic throttle control systems. If you do not know if this recall has been completed already on your vehicle, I would recommend that you contact your local dealer and have them run your VIN to see if this bulletin applies to your vehicle, and if so, has the recall been completed. You might just get the thing fixed for FREE!
The Service Campaign Bulletin number is D29, Dated July 2004

Otherwise, the only other suggestion I have for you is to take it to a different mechanic. It only took me about 5 minutes to come up with the information I have posted here. Any auto tech worth his salt could have given you the same information in about as much time as this has taken me....
You may want to try this if your having problems w the ETC.....if your engine light was on first ..(for a day or so)...more than likely your thermostat is out ....it seem to send a signal to your (ECM/PCM) causing the ETC to fail , and the ECM to give off wrong code..replase the thermostat first .....then see if you still have problems w the ETC..if you do ..you will then have to replace the ECM/PCM ...more than likely.....take it to a dealer to make sure ....have them check it ..but do not buy there ...they will charge you up to 1k to replace ...when you can find one online for $200 -$220 ....w lifetime warranty....and takes about 5 - 8 mins to install ...u will need to give them serial numbers vin numbers and mileage of car ....but not difficult to do at all......there are other thaings that could make this go but is the most probable ...take to dealership they will tell you exactly what it is .....for free ...in hopes that you will spend that 1k ..
ps...this was the case w my car.....i replaced the ecm first ...thermostat still sent code to the ECM/PCM..after replacing thermostat.....all problems cured

Same thing happened to my 2005 dodge magnum. Took it to the shop, we thought it was a computer issue. Flashed the computer and it didn't help. It ended up being the thermostat and some other parts. The shop had to remove the whole front grille to replace a part that went straight through the top of the engine. The part is plastic and had cracked and was slowly spewing coolant all over the engine. The car was basically overheating but so little that it was not evident at first. Once they replaced all of that the lights stopped coming on. Very frustrating to say the least.
