Hi, recently my dashlights just stopped working. I turn my headlights on but my dash and temperature control doesnt light up. I took the dash apart checked the bulbs, they all work fine. Checked the fuses and they dont seem to be burnt out. The only thing that works is my turn signals, p-brake, and check engine line has come on a couple of times. Any solutions???

Turn on your headlights and check to see if your taillights are working. They act as a fuse to your dashlights, its a safety thing
Did u try alt. fuse
Replace dimmer switch. Your tail lights should also not be working when you turn on the headlights. OR replace daylight sensor on dashboard.
The problem was a small box on the left inside trunk named brakelite failuer sensor ...replaced and fixed !

all lights must be working in order for the lights to work in some cars...it's possible that you may have a bad ground wire to the light socket or the you may not be getting power to that socket, which means you have a bad wire. Check to see if you're getting power to that socket with an electrical tester first.

check to see if the emergency flashers work if they do its its either a wiring problem, bulb, or socket the bulb fits in. if it does not work than the flasher is the problem. it is located underdash on driver side in the kick panel( to left of the brake pedal) it is a blue or grey sguare relay looking plug. if it is factory flasher it will say flasher with the part # on it. it should also say toyota on it. good luck

The tail and marker lights and Instrument lights are on the same circuit so both will go out if the fuse for this circuit blows. If fuse continues to fail, check the tail light or marker globes, including the globes for the number plate, for a globe that may have an internal short causing the fault and replace as necessary. As you have already checked the wiring near the light fittings for any chafed wires that could be shorting to the body causing the fault, then a closer inspection of the wires inside all the light assemblies for any shorts may be needed. It could also be that the instrument dimmer control has failed and is causing the fault. The electronic bits inside the dimmer control for these lights sometimes go faulty. Try disconnecting the connecting plug on the rear of the dimmer control and checking if fuse still blows. If fuse continues to fail, then the fault in the tail and marker lights circuit. Remove all the tail, number plate and running light globes from the light assemblies and leave the instrument dimmer control disconnected and check if fuse still blows. Disconnect the plug near each of the light assemblies to see if any of the individual assemblies is causing the fault. With all light assemblies disconnected and fuse continues to fail, then the fault must be in the main wiring loom some where. If you have a Multimeter, it could be used to determine which light assembly has a fault between the lamp supply and earth connection.

I didnt check the bulbs behind the temperature control though, would that brake the circuit if they where burnt out?
It must be a fuse, there is no cover on the fuse panel w/ diagram, cant find one online. So im just gonna try a multi-meter
dash lights and temp lights not working..lookd for the right fuse. cant find it.
i have a similar problem, in a 2004, the headlights are on but the lights on the dashboard are still brighter as if the headlights were off and the shifting lights (P,R,D.....) are off too. i´ve tried to find the burned fuse in the passengers fuses, also in the little one at the right under the hood and in the bigger one under the hood next to the washer fluid on the left and they all seem to be perfect. I can´t find the fuse resposible for such problem in the owners manual, the only thing that comes to my mind is that it might be a relain (small boxes) or a burned contact. if anybody has the answer please email me [email protected]
same exact thing as hom only dash lights for the gauge faces dont work niether deos the heat controls
I am haing the same problem with my 99 Alero, the dashlights and radio in my car. any solutions yet? we have replaced everything i can think of!
My brake lights are out and I dont have the fuse box cover w/diagrm ...Does anyone have one or where to get it ???
Everything works fine, except the dashboard lights. I have a 2002.
My Shift light (P,R,D...) arent on, the backlight for the speedometer and odometer dont light up. The rear running lights dont come on either.(but the blinkers work). Ive checked all the fuses and they are all fine. Can the relays go bad?

have you checked the dash switch that controlls how bright the dash lights are?
have you checked the dash dimmer switch that controls the brightness of dash lights?
when I turn the parking lights on dashlights work but when I turn on headlights they go out?
