That smell is most likely antifreeze. If the smell gets noticeably stronger when you turn on the AC/Heater, it is possible that your "heater coil" has started leaking. You will need the services of a professional if that is the case. Those are very hard to change.

Another possibility is your thermostat is not opening, causing your engine to overheat - steaming some of the coolant (antifreeze)/water mixture out of the system.

And thirdly, it is possible that someone spilled antifreeze on the radiator etc when adding fresh antifreeze - and you smell it after the engine warms up. If your car is not over-heating and you are not having to ad antifreeze/water to the radiator, then just keep driving. The problem will most likely go away.

I hope this is helpful to you. If yes, please take a sec to rate me. Thanks!

Gas smell and burning smell from honda 1997

Could be two different problems.
If the check engine light is not on, I would look at the vapor canister for the gas tank. Its usually mounted in the engine compartment.
If you have a small oil leak, the fumes will be sucked into the passenger compartment thru the cowl vents.

When my engine is ticking over and then i put the accelerate down white smoke comes outand theres a smell is it my turbo thats away

hi.
white smoke would normally mean water is being burn in the cylinder. if it is a sweet, sugary smell then the head gasket is almost certainly blown.
greyish smoke with an burnt oily smell would point towards the turbo oil seals being the problem.

either way, this should be checked properly and quickly by a specialist to find exactly what the problem is. if either of these problems are left to develop, it could result in serious engine damage, and costly repairs. if sorted soon enough, it could save you a lot of money.

hope this helps.

I drive 3181 N42 02 Reg. I'v been told the car has oil leak, jus yesterday whilst driving I could smell something like burning metal and a particular noise I don't know where it is coming from. Please...

Let an auto tech look at it because one way or the other it's going to end up on some tech's hands. Burning oil smell must be from the valve cover leak and dripping on top of the hot exhaust manifold burning it. The only time I smelled burning metal odor was from a smelting plant. It had an acidic smell that going to put you in tears.

Burning smell

The sulphur smell is the result of the emmisions control system. I have an 06 Expedition with the exact same engine and emmisions system as yours. When the engine is cold, you don't smell that sulphur smell, but as soon as the engine gets to operating temperature, the exhaust gasses smell sulphury. Nothing wrong with your ride - they all do that. The dealership sometimes spray the underbody with some type of rubber to protect the vehicle against rust. This rubber stuff sometimes get sprayd on the exhaust as well and then you will smell "burning tires" after driving the vehicle. This will go away after a few thousend miles though.
