Your Jeep has what's known as the delayed start, no check engine light problem. The Jeep will crank all day but not start until the check engine light comes on, on the dashboard. Next time it cranks but will not start, look at the dashboard to see if the check engine light is illuminated. If it's not lit up, then your Jeep does have that problem and your Jeep ecu is in need of repair or replacement. There are components inside the ecu that are going bad and will continue to get worse, eventually leading to a permanent no start condition. There are Jeep ecu repair services and replacement ecus available on ebay.

I had a skim module go out in mine in the ignition, and I have a 2001. It's a 100 part, and now it starts fine.

It is likely one of your battery cables loose. Same thing just happened to me today. What you need to do is first lock the doors, and close them. Then you need to disconnect, and reconnect the battery cable, then if the security lights still blink you must use your key to unlock the door, then it should stop blinking, and start just fine.

SOURCE: My 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo will not start.

cj2176 is correct, we need a lttle more info. Sounds like it will need a new fuel pump or something related to it. Since it starts on starting fluid it has compression and air and spark, just no fuel. Fuel pumps can just stop working while driving, and if not working obviously will not start. No caodes will be set for a fuel pump not working. If it cranks but does not start have someone pound on the bottom of the fuel tank with a fist or small rubber mallet lightly (don't damage the tamk) while your cranking the engine. If it starts, the fuel pump module in the tank is bad.

Testimonial: "great imformation. The Jeep is at a NEW shop as i type. I said Nothing to him except use the code reader please. "

SOURCE: 99 grand cherokee laredo wont start but turns over

my jeep did the same thing. when you open the hood, on the right hand side of the engine, it was two small rubber hoses, the back hose came off, i think it was the air intake. it was only easy to fix, just push it back on, it should be a small clamp on it.

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0. Got fuel, got spark but won't start!

Question edited for clarity. Cranking IS turning over. You are cranking but not firing, or starting, or running.

If you haven't much pressure at the rail, your likely problem is not enough fuel pressure and the fuel pump needs replacing. One post here says you need 39 PSI and another says 49 PSI. What do you have? You need to test with a pressure gauge.

1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo starting problems

Check to see if the fuel pump is running after it shuts down...could be a relay or the pump itself (overheating internally) Checked the fuel filter yet? Some crank sensors need to be shimmed. If it's too close to the flywheel even though you recently changed it, if it's too close to the wheel it can fail again. May not be the case but worth checking over. Also check the ceramic resistor on the left fender near the master cylinder if you have one. That too can cause problems.
