SOURCE: bad brake booster

If you know for sure that the booster has failed, you need to unbolt the master cylinder from it, (sometimes you can move it away enough to not even disconnect lines.) Then unbolt the booster from the firewall, disconnect the pedal linkage if connected to booster. Remove & replace booster assembly and everything else you you took off. If you didn't have to remove master cyl you are done. If removed, bleed master before putting back into service!

When i press the brake pedal on my 2003 chevy tahoe there is a loud whooshing sound, what is causeing this?

You have a bad vacuum booster. The diaphragm in the booster is ruptured resulting in vacuum loss and no power assist to the brakes. Do not drive in this condition, loss of control (stopping) hazard exist.. Replace Power Brake Booster. Since replacement of the booster requires removal of the master cylinder, replace the master cylinder as well, It is old (2003) and time for replacement

My brakes are hard to push down and it sounds like air is coming out of the brake pedal

This one I can be fairly certain of. It sounds like a rip in the vacuum power brake booster diaphram. Usually you just replace the whole power brake chamber, which includes the diaphram. You have to first remove the 2 bolts holding the master cylinder to the larger booster chamber, but you don't normally have to open any brake lines.
When replacing, make sure the brake pedal rod goes down the center of the new booster, and that there is sufficient clearance or freeplay in the pedal rod when done. (like .1" is all you need)
Should not have to bleed after done.

Describe your 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier 'I have a 2003 chevy cavalier. The car stalls each time i stop! When i start it each time the car stays at an idle!what would cause that? thanks'. Problem

sounds like a leak in the brake booster, but i'm not sure that car had one. if you have a larger booster canister between your firewall and master cylinder, remove and replace the bushings and hose that come from the booster and see if that solves your problem. if it doesn't, you may have a bad brake booster causing the vaccuum leak that is killing your car.
