Sounds like you have a voltage drop issue with your battery cableuse a DVOM, hook the red lead to the battery + terminal and the black lead to the battery cable at the starterwith an assistant cranking the engine read the DC voltageanything greater than .2v = issues
either battery terminals are bad/dirty or you need a new battery cable

Sometimes it starts good and sometimes won't start

If starter doesn't spin everytime. Clean battery terminals and a connection. Check connection at starter. Try putting into neutral to start. If starter still doesn't turn car over everytime. Probably starter solenoid. If starter spins every time and doesn't start check temperature sensor. My car once started only when sitting for a couple of hours. Because sensor was saying it was really cold and it would flood it. Had to push gas peddle to floor and hold it there until started. If that is the case change temperature sensor. If car is after mid 90s take and get it scanned.

99 Mazda 626 2.0 changed starter 3x's. No start

Well it could be an engine problem, or a bad connection with one of the battery cables. The engine would require more voltage to crank when it is hot, but not that much.
You might want to have someone check the engine to see how much drag is has when hot, by turning the crank by hand.

Just finished driving car, tried to start it back up and nothing happens. Radio works fine, lights come up but car won't start.

if starter is not engaging or clicks then have battery load tested. if battery checks good then test the voltage draw on the starter, may be dragging when it gets hot.

When we tried to start our 2007 Suzuki XL-7 this morning, we heard a loud crack (like an electrical spark). Now when you turn on the key. all lights, radio, etc. work fine. Turning the key to start the...

Check the start solenoid, starter side, when you turn the key... The battery side will always be hot, the starter side should be hot when you turn the key.

When the car is hot, the starter drags, but wont start. I heard something about a heat shield ?? How can I fix this ?

An older starter will sometimes fail to turn over when hot because the armature bushing expand and are too tight for the armature to spin. At this point it is time for a new or rebuilt starter. Shielding it will not really help because it is bolted to the engine and as the engine gets hot the heat will transfer to the starter through conduction and it still will not start.

Hope this helps.

Melting wires from my starter

You had a short circuit. You may have to replace all the wiring going to the starter and from the starter. Check the relays and switches.repair as many wires as you can and see what can be repaired and what cannot.
