1998 Pontiac Firebird 3800 V6 overheating

Vehicle was overheating, heater core was leaking, heater wasn't working...I R&R'd the heater core, thermostat, and a leaking heater hose...the thing is everythings's the same except the heater core no longer leaks, but there's still no heat and the engine gets hot as soon as the car warms up. I havn't changed the water pump yet, but, The upper radiator hose gets hot so I assume that water/coolant is moving inside there...could you guys please help, this has me stumped, I've tried every test I know.

Those vehicles have a bleeder valve at the highest point usually by the intake upper radiator hose. Make sure radiator is full heat is on high and just continue to bleed the air out.

SOURCE: Prizm overheats, heater core leaks, no heat

You can bypass the core or fix it that's up to you but I would change or remove the thermostat first. If it still overheats then start looking at the water pump and radiator. Hope this helps. Good luck.

SOURCE: Dodge 2002 Grand Caravan V6 3.3 engine overheating/no cabin heat.

Replace the bad radiator hose first.  Second- get you special formulated anti-freeze dye from the auto store and pour it into the radiator.  Third- make sure you got all the air pockets out of your system, cause the coolant system won't work with air pockets in it.  Fourth- Check for leaks by looking for the colored dye.  If it's not the radiator hose, then could possibly be a pin hole in your radiator.  Would suggest replacing all the radiator hoses at the same time while you got the coolant system disconnected, cause you don't want to have to come back and replace another hose in a few months.

If it is fogging your windows, you have a leaking heater core. Dash removal is required to fix it.

I have a 2002 pontiac firebird v-6 3800. The heater hoses run into a part that is attached to the motor. I am trying to find the name of the part so I can replace it or find an engine diagram for that...

Paul, if you mean "radiator hose" then the part is the thermostat housing.

Perhaps the part is the bypass valve, which causes the heated water to "bypass" the heater core if the core is restricted.

1998 3800 v6 firebird... wont run right after starting

Possibly a weak fuel pump, idle air control valve, vacuum leaks, or loose or damaged wiring in the ignition system. Check for vacuum leaks first. That's the only one that won't cost anything. Make sure all intake bolts are tight, and all hoses are connected properly and in good condition.

Same thing happened to my 94 firebird. Did your car run hot at any point? Mine overheated and ended up melting a couple of plug wires.
I replaced the wires (and plugs). That took care of the problem.
