All you need to do is turn your steering wheel to the left all the way till it stops then put your key in while still holding the steering wheel to the left, turn the key to the on position this should release your steering wheel!
SOURCE: ignition key won't turn
Sometimes it is the key. On certain vehicles the key has a small chip in it and over time these do get worn out. I would have a locksmith or the dealer cut you another key but please go to a reputable locksmith or dealer. I hope this works for you (it should). If not put another post and I can probably walk you through replacing the cylinder unless you feel more comfortable having a mechanic do it and paying him/her lots of money. Good luck

I had 2 chevy impala's my 2000 model gave me the same problem. Even though it is pricy you must replace the ignition module and the cylinder. If you just replace the cylinder and take it to a locksmith to key it it will work for a while but after a while the problem occurs again and sometimes the car wont even start for about 10 to 20 minutes. After a year of putting up with this problem a friend that works at a chevy dealer suggested this and ended my problems. Good luck!!
