The cars revs but does not change gears. Sometimes It gets stuck at a certain RPM or keeps climbing to about 3000 RPM and then does not change gears.

car idles at 2 rpm and climbing in park, has very poor pick up, why is this?

  • nissansentra Mar 07, 2009

It happens when car is fully warmed up, then change gear to 'Parking'. Engine revs to 2000+ rpm.

Check for vaccume leaks and also you PCV valve. check the hose too. Visually inspect every vaccume hose you can find. Sounds like a leak .

It could also be carbon build up. Check your EGR valve and clean the throttle body and IAC valve as well. It may fix your problem. If not, it can only help your car.

A wet air filter was put into my nissan sentra gxe with a 1.8L engine. It will start and idle, but won't rev much past 2000 rpm's. The filter was rmoved and the car sat in the sun all day hopi

never wash or wet an air filter as it closes up the pores in the paper element
fit a new element and then run the fault codes or reset the ECM using a scan tool
