Car has intermiiten spark problem I changed the ignition switch and do have power at the coil, the car has an electronic ignitor in the distributor and it also has the ignition module box also with a voltage regulator also on the side of the radiator shroud, where do I start and what can the problem be
You may have a bad wire in the pick up coil or your module I'm not there to check it out myself do you mean that you changed to all electronic ignition and took out the points and distributor if so the connector should be cleaned and greased with carbon conductive grease if you used dielectric grease then this is the problem it's not conducive it's for sealing out moisture and lubing plug boots not connectors on any wires and after the dielectric melts from the heat you get spark but it could be grounding out the distributor
Check the unit in the distributor first
the voltage regulator controls the voltage from the alternator and is not in the ignition circuit
check for bad grounds and broken wires
SOURCE: alternator light on
The alternator is not producing any power . If it were the engine would run without the battery. Check the wiring on the alternator. It must ave an exciter wire to make it work.

ok ill try to help you. have some one hold the engine in the crank position. and check spark at the end of the plug wire.do you have spark steady to the plug yes or now it should be steady not once in awhile if the battery is hot. if your spark is not regular. with engine revolutions it will not run.dont count out new parts they **** to good luck.

Sounds like crappy gas. The 289 may not like pump no-lead and the rattling sound you are hearing may be pinging / knocking.
SOURCE: no spark on my 1987 jeep wangler 6 cyl.
there is a timing sensor on driver side of tranny underneath near the top. if it is bad then you will not get it to start also the same on 4.0 Jeep cherokee

probably a clogged or collapsed lifter, add seafoam to the oil and see if it helps
