My 2005 V6 Mustang automatic started to surge like crazy as I was slowing down for a stop sign. It reved high & I pushed the brakes as hard as I could to stop it. I then put it in park & turned it off. After i restarted it it seemed OK. A few weeks ago I did get a throttle control engine light error message that put it into a limp home mode. Any idea of what is going on & what it will take to fix it?

Yes, this is usually caused by a failed pedal position sensor. A new one is about $120, so I would test before replacing. There are two pins tbat should have a linear change in resistance as the input is rotated.

SOURCE: engine stalls at stop lights and stop signs

sounds like the torque converter lock up might not be disengaging. You might also want to check for engine vacuum leaks. Does engine idle smoothly when in park or nuetral ? if the idle is good I would suspect torque converter problem.

the intakes go bad on these engines....... they leak coolant in the cylinders and cause a hydro lock that causes the rods to bend making the piston skirt hit the crank......" clicking noise" theres a law suit in progress for this issue......... you can find info on the internet

SOURCE: Volvo S40 Error code P0110 and P0105

there is two sensors that those code refer too. The map sensor, and the iat sensor. and both would have an effect on gas mileage. Both sensors would just make the car run a rich mixture.

SOURCE: Ford Focus Engine System Fault warning light

yes there is a know problem with the fuel system. fuel pump breaks down, empty your fuel filter into a bowl and check for metalic, if you have this in the filter your pump is F..... along with all the other common rail stuff. expensive job... error codes though, i find that hard to believe, fuel pressure faults will occur, i think you garage does not know what to do. or does not want to tell you the cost of the job and he will be in doubt himself of wether he is right..... was you engine coil light flashing at any point.!!!

I have an 01 Mustang v6 automatic with about 125k mileage. About 3 days ago I started experiencing a very hard chugging even though I have a full tank of gas and engine oil and coolant have just been...

Fuel or spark issues can cause this . Transmission lockup clutch can make a chugging sensation . When in overdrive lightly touch the brake while keeping a steady throttle and see if the chugging stops . Post back .

at 60 F it is starting to get close to freezing
as brake fluid is hygroscopic ( absorbs water from the air) it is very possible that the brake fluid is starting to get too thick to move in the brake lines from the water content in the fluid
I would be flushing out the entire brake system and replacing the fluid from a new unopened container of brake fluid
ensure that the cap seal on the reservoir is in good condition
discuss this prospect with your brake people especially if it is some time since the fluid was replaced

A couple days of driving like that, and you will
be pulling the trans, and emptying your bank account

I would not drive any of todays high tech vehicles,
farther, than to get home, then park them, until you
diagnose and repair.

You could possibly need a new trans pressure control
and solenoid pack , in trans,if it doesn't shift perfectly,
and if the tach flairs at all,it is slipping, good luck on that.

Don't use it at all, get it checked out

first thing to check is the tansmission fluid level. if its low. top it off and see if it works ok, if so, then find and repair the leak. If its full, you need the transmission checked ASAP.

the engine tickover is too slow when the engine is cold its running on cold start, ie:choke,, after it warms up the engine slows down this is what is causing it to stall in gear,, get some one to hold the brakes hard on and with the engine running in gear ajust the tick over till its reving at 750 - 850 rpm the revs will go up a bit when its out of gear,, before you pick a gear to go into push the foot brake down to stop the car lurching,,,

Slow drag starts, stalling and surging when at a stop

you could have a brake booster issue. you can do a simple test on another car by leaving the engine off and press the brake repeatedly 3 or four times will use up the vacuum in the brake booster. Once you have done this does it feel like the brake pedal in your van?
