Purpose of a vehichle throttle body - 2002 Mazda Tribute

Clean Throttle Body and MAF (mass air flow sensor). Classic symptoms of bad idle. The throttle body isn't shutting properly and letting air in. At highway speed it is fine because the throttle is purposely open.

There are spray cleaners for that purpose available at auto parts stores.
Spray it all over the inside if the throttle body without the engine running. Let it sit for a while to loosen the dirt. Spray again and then start the engine. Spray more to clean past the throttle plate.

it is not a carburetor, it is a throttle body-disconnect the harness, the throttle cable and the bolts that hold it onto the intake-after you have removed the intake tube. It really is not very difficult, just take your time and pay attention to what you remove and where parts go for purposes of re-assembly.there is no fuel involved and it is a good idea to get a gasket for the throttle body to intake in case the original is damaged on disassembly.

the throttle positioning sensor should be right next to the throttle body area, near the throttle plate, which opens up and closes for acceleration, and de acceleration, with a wire connection to it, you will have to remove the wire connection, and then remove the sensor, and line the new one back up, the same way you removed the old one, then recoonect the wire connection, start vehichle, and should run fine, if service engine light is on, shut engine off, and then remove the negative battery cable, for about 1 minute, then reconnect it, re start vehichle, light should have went out, you will have to reset clock, and radio functions again, hope that this has been very helpful to you.

remove the air duct hose that goe's to the throttle body, then you can see the throttle body area, you can purchase throttle body spray cleaner from a auto part store, start vehichle up and let run, and while holding down on throttle so engine won't die, gradually spray the cleaner into the throttle body area, and continue to let engine run untill smooth, so that the cleaner that was sprayed has time to burn the excess off of the o 2 senors, if engine light comes on after this, shut off engine, and disconnect 1 of the battery cables for about 1 minute, then reconnect the cable, and start engine up, light should be out, but later , i would hook up a code tester to the aldl under the instrument panel on drivers side to make sure code # from the light being on was removed, hope that this information was helpful to you.
