My control box shuts off automatically - sometimes it stays on only a few minutes and sometimes only a few seconds. sometimes everything goes black and sometimes when it shuts off the temperature stays lit. sometimes the blower stays on and sometimes the blower shuts off. i had the car had the local buick dealership and they said the control head was bad. i changed the control head and the problem still persists. we checked the fuses and changed the relay that is located by the clove box and checked the vaccuum hoses and still no luck. please help
SOURCE: location of blower resistor
The 96 LeSabre Custom and LeSabre Limited use an electronic module in place of a blower resistor.
It is under the hood on the firewall on top of the heater plenum, but below the relay rack.
They tend to short and run on high until the module burns out and then it quits.
The same part is used on many high-end GM cars from 92 to 96. The electronic module has two connectors on it. (If yours has only one plug it is a real resistor pack and not electronic.)

on the paasenger side of the car under the dash. Remove the lower dash panel below the glove box and the module is in the duct for the heat to the far right side of the footwell.

Same thing happened with my 95 park avenue a few weeks ago. I talked to a guy I know who is a GM mechanic and he says that the module (the thing on the dash with all the buttons and the temperature display) is broken and needed to be replaced. These computer modules just get funny with age and eventually have to be replaced. You can find one pretty easy on ebay motors. It's not hard to replace, you just have to take apart the dash and take out the old module and put the new one in. Hope this helps!
